The London Times reported that one of the attackers shouted “Allahu Akhbar” (“God is Great in Arabic) as they attacked the soldier with meat cleavers.

One of the suspects is injured and in the hospital and no other people are being sought, Nick Raynsford, a lawmaker who represents the Greenwich and Woolwich areas of London, said in an interview on Sky News. The incident may have started because of a traffic accident, he said.

Sky sources understand that senior police officers believe the killing was likely to be a politically-motivated Islamist terrorist attack.

Dozens of weapons – including a number of knives – and pools of blood could be seen on the ground, where a man wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt is said to have been attacked by two men.

Sky sources say that following their attack, witnesses heard the pair chanting “Allahu akbar” – and asking passers-by to take photographs of them.

Armed officers arrived at the scene and opened fire on two men thought to be the attackers. The two are now in hospital with gunshot wounds.

Quote:PITTSBURGH —Gun bashes have been a fixture in western Pennsylvania for decades as a way to raise money for many different types of groups, but now some are raising concerns about whether the events are sending the wrong message, especially when held by public safety agencies.

Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen told WTAE he had concerns about the gun bash, but allowed it to go forward because his department needs the money. Mullen said anyone who won a weapon went through the proper background checks, and they were careful about what type of weapons would be raffled off.

“We discussed we should not be giving AR-15s or assault weapons away, because of what happened in Newtown. And they agreed with that,” Mullen said.

That concern was not shared by organizers of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department Gun Bash held May 11. Several AR-15s were on display at the event, and organizers said they had no concerns about the controversy surrounding the weapon.

Beretta Leaving Maryland After Gov. Mandates Strict Gun Control Laws

One thing you can say with absolute certainty about the big gun manufacturers is that, unlike many other American companies, they stand by their principles and are as good as their word. Beretta, which is the world’s oldest firearms manufacturer, promised that, if Maryland passed its strict (and almost certainly ineffectual) post-Sandy Hook gun control laws, Beretta would pack its bags and leave the state.

On Friday, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed into law the state’s comprehensive new gun control laws. The new laws, the stated purpose of which is to “save lives,” ban some “assault weapons” (whatever the heck gun grabbers think those imaginary weapons are), limits magazine capacity to ten rounds, and requires mandatory fingerprinting for gun purchase.

The first two prohibitions prove definitely that Maryland has no interest in “saving lives.” If it did, it would have paid attention to the fact that the Department of Justice has issued a report conceding that crime goes down when legal gun ownership goes up. Moreover, there’s no evidence that an arbitrary ten-round limit benefits anyone but the bad guys.

HB436, introduced by Representative Doug Funderburk in February, was initially passed by the House in April by a vote of 115-42. Last week, the State Senate approved the bill with an amendment which did not change any of its nullification aspects. The vote there was 26-6. The bill then needed one final vote in the house which happened just before 10pm local time this evening.
