Quote:‘BERETTAS DON’T BLUFF’: MAJOR GUN COMPANY THREATENS TO LEAVE MARYLAND OVER NEW GUN CONTROL PROPOSALS

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/...proposals/

Quote:Beretta USA is threatening to leave Maryland over new gun control proposals, the Washington Post reports, and they would take hundreds of jobs along with them.

“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta, asked.

Beretta, the nearly 500-year-old family-owned company that made one of James Bond’s firearms, has already invested more than $1 million in the [civilian version of a machine gun designed for special operations forces] and has planned to expand its plant further in Prince George’s County to ramp up production.
But under an assault-weapons ban that advanced late last week in the Maryland General Assembly, experts say the gun would be illegal in the state where it is produced.

....Its iconic 9mm pistol — carried by every U.S. soldier and scores of police departments — would also be banned with its high capacity, 13-bullet magazine.

Quote:Some lawmakers are expressing confidence that they can strike a deal with Beretta

.....according to the Washington Post, the company’s Italian “patriarch” Ugo Gussalli Beretta expressed a lack of confidence in the state.

“All I can tell you is, there always seems to be a problem with Maryland,” he reportedly said.

It shouldn't be necessary to strike a deal! Either support it 100% or stick to your bull crap liberal ideals. Beretta, as it seems, sees the writing on the wall and I hope they move forward with their relocation. Anything less would be shameful.

Move to Pennsylvania... we need the jobs and we cling to our firearms.

That would be nice, but if any firearm mfg decides to spend the money to move it's going to be somewhere far away from the liberal NE.

Well, one thing they could use as a benefit to moving to PA would be that you could still be relatively close to your family. There's a whole lot of skilled labor involved, and coaxing current employees in MD and NY would be a lot easier than say... Texas or Montana. You could also keep a lot of your materials suppliers.

PA is extremely unfriendly to business. Very high corporate tax rate, compulsory unionism, regulations out the wazoo, militant DEP...

I wouldn't invest millions in setting up shop here. I'd flee from the northeast.

PA could easily swing hard left if Philly & P-burgh pollute Harrisburg enough with their constituents. Suburban sprawl makes this a near inevitability with time.

Exactly. Between that ultimate lilkeyhood and the poor business climate I don't see it happening.
