He was on top of a trailer outside the home, stealing lawn equipment. Homeowner goes outside, confronts him, "exchanges words", then the thief is shot while "trying to get away."

It's reported that the shoot was justified under the "stand your ground" law.

Some crucial details must be left out. Might be shitty reporting (most likely), but I can't really support shooting even a hardened scumbag while he's running away (if that's accurate).

Agreed. You shoot to stop the threat, not because some shithead's stealing your weedwhacker. Life > property.

I didn't think you were supposed to shoot someone who is running away from you unless you had already started because he had posed a threat right beforehand.

There are a lot of people in this world that could probably use a good bullet to the head, but that slope gets way too slippery, way too fast for me to condone this type of "justice" for a property crime.

But, as I said, there may be some pertinent self defense details omitted from the news story, accidently or otherwise.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

its a shame that the shitheads are protected by law better than the victim of the crime. i work hard for what i have and ill be damned if im gonna let some shithead off easy. there are consequences for actions taken, maybe the entitlement class should taking them serious

I know the difference between property and life and such.

Good riddance just the same.

Outside the house = you scare them away or apprehend them if you safely can.
Inside the House = they're fair game. Anybody inside my house without my consent who is breaking the law, I consider them to be a danger to my life and the lives of my family. If they made it into my house, they had to use some tool to get in. That same tool can be used to victimize/kill me.

And the next one takes other property....and the next....and the next.

Eventually it threatens your ability to provide shelter, food, an education by taxing your income to replace those things. Or having you make hard decisions about medical care vs replace the car that was stolen.

Sorry - you will not take what I have - if you die trying - THAT was your mistake!

Absolutely right, life>property. That thief should have known better and valued his life as greater than the weedwacker he tried to steal. I blame the thief for putting himself in a situation that cost him his life. Nice Dalek btw......

it is quite clear that some live in a dirrerent world. have never had ther house or other broken into and thins stolen. i have and i can tell you after awhile you get tired and you will make it stop if you have a chance.

put it this way i have put my life into what i own. how by working. which is selling parts of my life to get money to buy what i have. so when they come to steal it they are taking part of my life and i have a right to stop them. if what they are stealing is not worth the risk to their life then they should leave it alone.
