put it this way i have put my life into what i own. how by working. which is selling parts of my life to get money to buy what i have. so when they come to steal it they are taking part of my life and i have a right to stop them. if what they are stealing is not worth the risk to their life then they should leave it alone.

Well, I have been robbed before. Had my cars broken into a few times, had my apartment broken into, even been robbed at gunpoint on the subway when I was a kid. I still believe that life > property. I don't believe in pulling a Joe Horn and shooting a guy in the back over a television. A guy running away from you with your stereo in his hands is no threat to you. A guy running towards you might be.

Think I'm an idiot? Next time you catch a guy running from your home with your shit in hand, go ahead and shoot him in the back. See how fast you get charged with something, and see how much Castle Doctrine WON'T apply to your case.

If your property is really worth that much to you, I suggest moving to TX, where you can use lethal force to defend property, yours or someone else's.

Bob, I understand your point completely. I am certainly fully capable of grasping the concept as you outline it.

As Jah points out, you will not fare well if you shoot someone running away with your property, even if we can all agree that they desperately deserve it. YOUR life is worth more than your property and you will forfeit your pursuit of your own life and liberty in such a case.

Do I like it? No, I do not, but I'm not willing to rot in jail for shooting someone who is not threatening my immediate health and safety. As long as they stay outside my house, I'll exercise due restraint.

Inside my house, they will be shot. Plain and simple.

Having said all that, the perp's family needs to STFU and just grieve the fact that he contributed to his own demise, whether the shoot was justified or not. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.
