Quote:2 bystanders wounded in Midtown Manhattan shooting

NEW YORK (AP) - NYPD officers fired three shots on a crowded Manhattan street near Times Square on Saturday night, missing the man they believed had a weapon but striking two bystanders, police said.

The incident happened just before 10 p.m. at 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue near the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Police said officers saw a man on foot weaving erratically through traffic and sometimes blocking vehicles. After approaching him, police said, the man reached into his pocket as if grabbing a weapon, and two officers fired a total of three shots. They missed him but struck a 54-year-old woman in the right knee and a grazed a 35-year-old woman in the buttocks, police said.

The women were taken to hospitals, where they both were listed in stable condition, according to police. Neither had injuries considered life threatening, police said.

The man was taken into custody after a police sergeant subdued him with a Taser. No weapons were found on him.

As long as they get home saf le at the end of their shift. They should probably just shoot people EVERY time they go on patrol. Eventually, they might take out a bad guy. And the bystanders they weed out will help lower real estate prices.

How long after getting shot in the knee do you get to walk again, if ever?

Exactly. Losing a leg didn't kill me but it sure caused me some serious life changes.

It's stories like this that make me think that the police need more trigger time. One of the guys I was shooting with this weekend for IDPA at Ontelaunee is a State Trooper. He routinely shoots competitions wearing his duty gear. Full belt, everything. More and more cops need this kind of "training" rather than just qualifying once a year.

After a couple thousand rounds with those NYPD 400 pound triggers, and all the cops in the city will have Popeye arms.

No, they took care of that and injured the innocent people themselves. Tongue

You have noooo idea. Most departments I am aware of qualify once - maybe twice - a year and come up with some sort of nonsense that can qualify as "training" to meet state requirements.

Most non-LE who are serious about carrying are better trained than most police.
