Anyone going this month? It's not a regular match, just a classifier. Since I have never classified I thought I would try. Then practice this winter and re-classify in the spring.

Nope, but I'm going to the IDPA intro course at Ontelaunee on November 10th.

Could be fun. I've done multi-gun shoots in the past and am a big fan. Never done an official IDPA match though but, have always wanted to give it a go.

Must I do the intro course first or can I just show up on the 18th? BD, if I remember correctly, you just started doing these, did you do the intro course first or just head up and run a match?

Very nice club too from what I hear and... they have a 1,2, and 300yd rifle range. Drool. As well as Ruger Rimfire matches, ICORE matches, and whole host of other events. Plus, theyre on the CMP list. can you say Garand. Only 1/2hr-45min from me too.

Many people simply show up and do a match to get started in IDPA. There is no problem with doing so.

But this particular club offers a free intro to IDPA once a month. The idea is to give you a "crash course" in the rules of IDPA and let you run a few courses. I have never competed in an IDPA match, and this seemed like a good way to get my feet wet before jumping in. Plus, it's better than paying the entry fee for an actual match, only to find out it's not my thing. Here is a link with some more info about the course, if you're interested:

I just jumped right in. No intro is required. But I researched all that I could with videos and the rules. The classifier on the 18th isnt a match its to see what class you fit in. Most people recommend getting a few regular matches under your belt then trying to classify. But that isn't required either.

The class that Dave offers is great. While just going out and shooting your first match cold is just fine, you WILL do better after taking the class first. Simply to get those first time jitters out of your system.

With that said ... I will be shooting the classifier for sure. My wife will be helping out with checking people in and setting up squad assignments.

From what Dave said, bring lots of extra ammo -- he told me about a special "for fun" stage he is doing at the Classifier and frankly, its got me concerned ... for his mental health
