.22LR Phoenix Range Kit
#1
Does anybody own a .22LR Phoenix Range Kit or has anybody ever shot one before? Looks like a pretty good deal, but I know the old saying: If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Edit: Here is the same firearm but with a shorter barrel. Everybody rated it 4 or 5 stars out of 5. Reviews

Not sure what you mean about too good to be true. I don't own the gun and have never heard of it before.

Google it. They are susceptible to frame cracks at the top of the mag well. It's a zinc alloy and it's paper thin at that point. That's why Phoenix recommends only standard velocity ammo.

On the up side, they seem to be pretty reliable and it's supposed to have a lifetime warranty. For what it is, it's not a bad bargain.

I have a hp22 with both barrels. My 5" doesnt work too well but 3" does. Im 5k or so in with no problems until recently. Mag doesnt stay in without pressure on the bottom of the mag. I have run 2k or so hyper velocity. No cracking what so ever. They are great guns for a great price. Buy it, enjoy it.

I have two of them. One the standard barrel. The other is the range barrel. They do what they are supposed to do. Are there better options out there? Sure there are. They also cost more.

Just saw one in the case at my local shop.

Don't get me wrong. I have one that I bought used, but I haven't had a chance to fire it yet.

The metal is paper thin at the top of the mag well and it doesn't look like it will hold up very well.

IMO, it's worth what you pay for it.

I wanted to buy one so bad but on the last round the bolt doesn't hold open. So unless you're keeping count on the rounds and you pull the trigger again after running out of ammo you will break the firing pin after awhile. Some people put a 22 round that has a weaker load (It's like a snap cap or something, I remember it was made by Aguila) so you will feel when you fire the last round. However buying a second type of 22 ammo for this was an inconvenience so I opted out of buying this pistol. Look up Phoenix Arms on YouTube and one of the videos gives a good review and tells you about this snap cap 22 round I am talking about.

If it wasn't for that last round bolt open I would own the pistol, it's hard to beat for the price.

I saw a used Ruger Mark III for $220. I might pick that up if my other gun shop doesn't have any better deals.

I picked up the gun yesterday and the kit is in the mail.
The gun works fine. Feels well made for 1950's Tech.
Not easy to brake down and harder to reassemble.
