Short Answer: YES

Long answer:
In Florida there were 60,000 votes to the other parties
Ohio: 76,000
Wisconsin: 33,000
Virginia: 52,000

by my math, if those were all Romney votes (and I know they wouldn't be) Romney would have won those states

I think if votes had had been predicted for them had come through for the Libterarians it would have.

Luckily it looks like most of them voted for Romney.

Third parties are generallly going to be ineffective for the Presidential and Senate votes. The House of Representaives is a different animal altogether. House members tend to come from state and local gov't. That lends itself to electing third party candidates who could then leverage their votes. Third paries need to concentrate on local, state and federal House races if they ever want to get anywhere.

No. Romney lost for a variety of reasons. 3rd party votes are far down the list. These are the main reasons from my point of view.

Romney was a poor candidate and ran an exceptionally poor campaign.

The 47% statement hurt him, but it's the truth and that's a high hurdle to overcome on election day.

Obama and the Dem's have finally figured out how to turn out their voters, at least in Predidential elections.

Intentional alienation of Hispanic-American voters.

Intentional alienation of women voters.

If I am not mistaken the margin in Ohio was >100K, in Wisconsin it was >200K, and in Virginia it was >100K. Therefore it would have made no difference in thise states. Per the comcast website, providing those numbers are accurate.

That's why I said "if my math is correct". Obviously not.

And why I also added the caveat regarding the comcast website numbers.

Their votes in general made as much difference as those who didn't vote at all.

Except they got an "I voted" sticker.

Made zero difference, unfortunately. Which proves my initial point, Everyone that voted for Romney but thought he was not worthy of being on the GOP ticket and liked Johnson or another third party, well, they threw away their vote. If the voted for the person they thought were best instead the 3rd party would have earned some credence and the GOP would have got the message. Now the GOP think it was so close that they lost just because of these minor things like the 48% crack when in reality it was because they put up a very shitty candidate.

There was a lot of talk before the elections about people "throwing their votes away" which is why I ask. Some said it was as good as a vote for O.
