4 teens charged with stealing guns from Manheim Township home

Quote:The boys are 14 to 16 years old, township police Sgt. Robert Baldwin said.

They stole a pistol, a rifle, ammunition, a GPS unit, a PlayStation gaming system and games from a home in the 2900 block of Tiffany Drive on Friday, between noon and 1:30 p.m., he said. Value of the items was not known.

Why were 4 teens not in school at 1:30pm on friday? I'd also put money down that these kids knew there were guns in the house, they were probably friends with someone that lived there.

I get a "page not found" when clicking your link, looks like you didn't use the "insert hyperlink" interface, long links get parsed incorrectly without using the insert link. At least for Chrome.

Kids here had an early dismissal Friday, not sure why but I heard on the scanner they did when I cop asked why so many kids were out of school.

They pulled the article for some reason. If you search for it on their site, there's still evidence of it being there, but there's no direct link to it anymore.

This is very typical of the news in Lancaster. Things go unreported too many times and sometimes things that were reported get pulled. My guess, one of the kids that was arrested is the child of someone with some pull.

Check this out: http://lancasteronline.com/search/index....0teenagers

Towards the bottom of the search you'll see the article, but if you go to it, it's missing.

That's unheard of in the papers I am familiar with. They often won't cover a story because someone has "pull" but to pull it after the fact should have people crying out for the publisher's head. Is there only one paper?

Pretty much. Technically there's two, but they're both owned by the same company. A lot of stuff goes on in Lancaster that doesn't make it to the papers, and when something does happen, there's virtually no investigation by the reporters. I swear that they sit there and wait for the police to email them a statement.

You'll notice that Lancaster City is one of the non-participating agencies. All the other ones I can understand why they're not. Several of them don't have their own PD, and are patrolled by PSP. Others have so little happening there isn't much point in reporting. Just having seen how the city operates in regards to crime over the past 30 years or so, they probably don't want to participate because they don't want people to realize how bad the crime really is.

If people knew then they'd actually expect something to be done about it.

I couldn't see the map last night on the iPad...no Silverlight. Interesting map, however, they say not all incidents will appear on it, but don't say why that is that way.

And, the city not participating is pretty indicative of your thoughts. Philly has one I've seen that shows recorded gun shots. Apparently they have monitors all over the city and they can capture and discern the sound of a gunshot from other bangs. The one time I looked at that map it was absolutely crazy to see the number of constant gunshots. Here is one similar to the Lancaster County map. Although it looks like a private site and not a government run one which probably makes it more accurate.
