.45 acp 225 gr. FP Data
#1
Anyone load 225 grain flat points in .45 acp? With ammo and reloading supplies in short supply I picked up a box of 225 gr. Flat Point in .45 ACP from King Shooters.

Never loaded FPs before and was wondering is anyone had some OAL recommendations. I imagine that since 4.3 gr. of Bullseye makes Major for a 230 gr. RN then 4.5 of Bullseye would be more than fine. Obviously I will chrono, but the OAL has me a little concerned.

Are these lead? Like a semi-wadcutter? If so, Computer-Steve regularly hand loads these for the range. He usually shoots 1911 (Springfield), and I've shoot them from my Kimber, Beretta, and XD45. I believe he uses a Dillon 650 and has been doing it for a long time. These days he's a lot easier to reach on FB.

I have no idea where he gets his lead, but what you are describing is one of his favorite loads and he has experimented with it for years. He loads hollowpoints as well but I think most of it would be this very load. All I can tell you is that it is very accurate and nice to shoot. But I haven't done any reloading since 1980 or so.

Do you have a way to reach him? I can always just point him to this thread. I know he is signed up on poofa, don't know if he is here.

I just checked, I don't see him on the member list here. I sent him an invite back in September but I don' think he ever responded.

Just hit him up on twitter or FB, or I can direct him here.

Just 'messaged' him on FB, he said he would try to get on here but he's really up to his eyeballs with his business and trying to move. He didn't say anything about OAL, just that you have to find what your gun likes.

Kinda figured as much, was mostly looking for a starting point.

A thousand years ago, when I was reloading for my revolvers and lacked a set of calipers, I would eyeball the OAL to match a similar factory round. I'm thinking your flat nose have a silhouette similar to a hollow point?

Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe someone with a real clue will stop by. In the meantime, at least we're keeping this thread at the top. Rolleyes
