.45acp Carry Ammo
#1
I just got my 1.5" black horsehide belt from the beltman. Because it is such a thick, tough belt, I'm going to be carrying my "heavy" Glock 30sf more often. Just wondering, what do you guys carry in your .45acp pistols for self-defense? By self-defense I mean when you are outside your house shopping, eating, working, etc. I know some people use different rounds for self-defense and home-defense. Right now I just picked up some 185 grain Hornady Critical Defense FTX.

I can't speak for the .45ACP (...yet) but all my carry ammo is either Critical Defense, Hornady Custom(which is sorta the same bullet without the rubber plug) or Speer Gold Dots. I for some reason like Gold Dots better, I don't know why though.
I've also bought Remington Golden Sabers and Federal Hydroshocks, both seemed kinda gimmicky but they went bang so I can't say to much about them.
That was all mostly 9mm and .38s though. Hornady Custom in the .357 Mag.

Feeding shouldn't be an issue with a Glock so basically your options are endless.

Are you looking to meet any certain criteria or just getting peoples opinions on their carry ammo?

Oh god, you better hope Val doesn't see this post. He hates that shit! (J/k Val) I carry Critical defense now, but there seem to be a few better options out there, so i'll be switching in the near future. Critical Duty by Hornady seems to be one step up from the Critical Defense round as far as eliminating barriers goes. Best of luck!

They didn't make a Critical Duty in 45 because they couldn't get it to pass the FBI tests.

My 45s are loaded with 230 grain Ranger Ts. HST would be my second choice.

I loaded some 200 grainy XTPs up, and they function well.
