6-Year-Old Expelled for Bringing Toy Gun to School

Looks Like a criminal to me......

A kindergartner at Alice Drive Elementary in Sumter has been expelled from school for bringing a toy gun to class.

Naomi McKinney, who's six-year-old, was expelled on January 7th.

The problem began when Naomi grabbed her brother's toy gun to bring in for show and tell.

"I chose to bring it to school because I thought I could show my friends it because they might like seeing it," Naomi explains.

The parents need to sue that district for everything that they can. If it was never made clear that even toys were against the rules they stand a VERY good chance of winning their case and having their daughter's record cleared. ASSHATS!!!!!AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

In today's climate regarding schools, I doubt she'll win.

Yeah, but with a hint of nastiness and portrayal of gun owners as the bad guys in this...
Quote:Here is Bynam's full statement:

"As superintendent, I will do everything in my power to protect the safety of our students and staff. School level administrators and teachers have received threats as a result of the decision that was made to expel a six year old child for violating district policy. Threats made to staff members are not tolerated, and we intend to involve law enforcement.

"After careful thought and consideration for the safety of the school community, I have decided to vacate the ruling of the hearing panel. The student will be allowed to return to school. The suspension time has been served.

"Sumter School District has zero tolerance for weapons on our school campuses. Our current policy states that the board will expel any student who brings a weapon to school, and in the case of firearms, that includes look alikes. We plan to collectively revisit all board polices that affect student discipline."

Translation: "We're afraid someone with a gun will kill someone if we don't submit to their demands."

NOT that they actually THINK that, but SAYING it puts the "wrong" on someone other than themselves.

Very transparent. Very pathetic.

I don't think anything surprises me in schools anymore.

I remember a year or two ago, didn't a girl get suspended for bringing a butter knife to slice her apple with? Oh yeah, here we go... http://www.texnews.com/news/knife102996.html

And now you can't even bring an "L-shaped" piece of paper to school.

So I can imagine the terror a non-working airsoft pellet gun induced in school. The horror.

I seem to remember a few years back, a little girl accidentally grabbed her mom's bagged lunch from the fridge instead of hers. When lunch time came around, she opened the bag and discovered that there was a steak knife in it. So she did exactly what she thought was the right thing to do: She discreetly closed up the bag and asked to be excused to speak with the principal. Upon arriving at the principal's office, she said something to the effect of, "I got my mommy's lunch by on accident and there was a knife in it, it's in the bag," and handed him the lunch bag.

I can't remember if she was suspended or expelled, but she was definitely punished.

Nobody has any common sense anymore! In the "old days", the principal would have praised the girl for her honesty and given her a piece of unhealthy candy and sent her back to lunch.
