A Real Email Exchange with an Angry Gun Hater
VERY SHORT EXCHANGE, BUT THE POINT IS MADE. das

Here is a real email exchange with a real subscriber that happened a few days ago.

This subscriber was apparently upset by some of the information he received. So he wrote an email to let me know how he was feeling.

I think you missed a few points that you perhaps didn't think of because you know them.

It might have been helpful to further define .22 ammo. Anyone who doesn't know guns doesn't realize the difference between a .22 and a .45, between size, usage, power, etc.

You could also have explained the look of the rifle by comparing it to clothing styles. A traditional rifle is rather like your dad's clothing style compared to your updated style with the AR-15. Both do the same thing - cover your body, but one does it with a bit more modern feel than the other. Same with the rifles. The AR-15 is the new style of "jeans". Smile

You get a rep simply for trying to be logical. I know, and have as friends several anti-gun people. It's a very good try BUT I've come to learn the gun debate is pure emotion. you will not change someone with that thinking..

They look at me as different in the fact that I always carry a handgun when my wife and I visit. I'm no different than any other law biding citizen, and that's where their logic go arye. They have no reason to fear a gun in it's holster.it just might help them one day, Just as a cops gun would..

I do realize it could simply be my inability to communicate, But I never changed anybody's opinion that had the thoughts of the emailer.I truly don't understand why people don't just take a look at other news sources. it's easily verifiable.. I frequently quote the FBI uniform crime report. Don't understand..

What they said about the Zimmerman trial was right out of the daily news And there was no discussing it, He went looking to kill. end of story!

What changed? I'm genuinely curious.

This may not be the right thread, and in fact may be better served in its own thread, but I'd love to hear it either way.

Over the years, reasonable articles and interactions with responsible gun owners caused me to have some doubts about my stand, but I thought they were the exception to the rule. I believed that we could uphold the 2nd amendment even in the face of controls and restrictions. When my daughter started dating a guy who OC'd all the time, I had the chance to talk with him and gradually came to understand the bigger picture. I also got over my fear of guns. It was a gradual process, and at any point, you would've thought I was a firm anti. Even my husband was surprised when I made the switch.

My sister used to be one of those and I have educated her into understanding how things really are. Having our site didn't hurt either. It made it a lot easier for me to point out all the laws that we have and that adding to that massive list isn't going to change anything. By talking with her and making sure she had non-biased information and using (omg dare I say) logic and facts she's on our side now.
