Internet talk show host and rabble-rouser Adam Kokesh pleaded guilty Wednesday to firearms-related charges — assuring him immunity from any charges related to the attempted smuggling of a cellphone into the D.C. Jail.

Kokesh’s gun-related felony charges stem from a videotaped July Fourth stunt in which he loaded a shotgun in the District's Freedom Plaza as a protest of the city’s restrictive firearms laws. Carrying a firearm outside the home in the District is illegal and Kokesh pleaded guilty to carrying a rifle, possession of an unregistered firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. In a separate case, he pleaded guilty to a charge of marijuana possession.

As a result of the plea, Kokesh will be released from custody while awaiting his sentencing in January. He has been held in jail since July 9, when police raided his Herndon home and found 10 firearms as well as marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms.

I don't understand what was the point if he's not going to fight it?

Because sometimes people do dumb stuff that you can't fight....like smuggling contraband into a jail. And when they meet with their lawyer, the lawyer says, "you are an asshat if you don't take the deal"..... so they do.

Perhaps now he does not become a convicted felon...think of the ramifications if you were to become one. Would you risk it under his circumstances?

His original attorney, also a personal friend of his, randomly quit the case. A new court appointed defense attorney came on. Perhaps knowing he wouldn't be afforded the best defense with a public defender he plead guilty rather than risk going to trial, losing and being sentenced to many more years in prison.

"Randomly", eh? Perhaps. Perhaps *they* got to his attorney knowing that this would happen.

Funny you say that because his manager was quoted on a blog suspecting almost exactly that.

But he is a man of the people! Surely funds are pouring in to help in his defense? Rolleyes

Kokesh isn't an activist, he's an attention whoring douche who talks like a hard man, but rolled over like a drippy pussy when faced with jailtime. Yeah, real tough guy. Real hard rock. If he was really in this fight, he would have been prepared for a legal battle, and he would have made sure not to be CAUGHT WITH ILLEGAL DRUGS. He got himself into the mess he's in by committing felonies without a backup plan.
