Air Guns
#1
Like alot of folks, I wish I had more time to get my real guns to the range. I really wish I could shoot on my property, but can't. So -

I'm thinking about getting a good air gun, maybe a rifle and a pistol, in a caliber larger than "BB". I do have a Daisy Red Rider that is freakishly accurate, but would like a bigger pellet. Not interested in "air soft" or anything that would need any kind of cartridge.

Yes, of course, something to have in case SHTF that I wouldn't need anything other than pellets to run.

Anybody have anything good they could recommend? Looks like there is all kinds of stuff out there.

Thanks!

Walmart has several nice break action .22 caliber high velocity air rifles on the shelves.

Here's a pic of my Walmart special, it's a Beeman:

Can you shoot air guns on your property? I know a lot of places have ordinances in effect that prohibit the discharge of pretty much anything, including air guns. I know my area does and it comes with a $600 fine.

I think I can - I'll have to go look at the local laws again. I hope I can!

I already have shot my BB gun. I have a somewhat secluded backyard with a field on one side of me. Big fence and arborvitae on the other three. Only shooting a distance of 25' at the most. Pretty sure no one hears or sees the BB gun.

I have a Ruger Air Hawk Elite. I put a Simons red dot on it. I have run it thru the chronograph and Barracuda pellets come out around 1000 fps. Good enough and accurate enough to kill small critters.

I have one of the old "Blue Streak" airguns:

Apparently they've been making them for almost 50 years.

Anyway this was my first gun. I got it for Christmas when I was about 5 years old. This is what I learned to shoot on. I still have it today and I'll never get rid of it. It feels like a real gun, not a toy. And after 20 years of use, it's still going strong. No CO2 cartridges, just pump it, cock it, insert a pellet, and shoot.

Thanks for the replies, guys, I appreciate all the recommendations. They are all the sort of air rifle I'm looking for.

Nice present for a 5 year old, Bac0nfat! You must have been VERY happy that Christmas.

Whats your price range? Will help narrow your search.

Personally im still lusting after one of these
http://www.airforceairguns.com/Condor-Ut...s-s/39.htm
Id get it in at least 20 cal, probably 22 or 25. Plenty of ways to mod these into monsters. But they cost $$$. Still a 25 cal pellet at 1050 fps...

Remember though, you want to keep your shots below super sonic. Go above that and accuracy sucks.

Iv seen condors modded to 308 pellets as well. Some have tried 9mm and others. The 308 iv found 171gr nearly 900fps with 290fpe. They are crazy. One day I will have one.

My price range is always "cheap" Big Grin
But clearly I'll be spending around $200 to get something good. Still in the shopping around phase.
