AK Sight that I can Co-witness thru
#1
Thinking about a sight AGAIN for the AK. Don't want to spend and arm and a leg. Also looking for something that will allow me to co-witness my iron sights thru it. I have an Ultimax Rail up front to mount too.

Prefer some type of red dot or like sight.

Any suggestions of decent sights without breaking the bank?

Bushnell TRS-25 or Primary Arms micro dots. Primary Arms is showing their red dots are out of stock, but you can find the TRS-25 elsewhere. They both run under $100 and are damn good for the price.

Aimpoint Micro T-1is the best choice... if you can spend up to $600.
Guns... I have a few.

This is a pretty good setup.

They're out of stock at the moment but they get them in pretty regularly. The Strikefire is a pretty good reddot and $249 isn't a bad price for one with an AK mount that cowitnesses.

Wow, Primary Arms has a lot of choices. Not sure which I would want. If you were going with one, which one do you think you would go with?

TRS-25: With 3MOA red dot, how does this work out. I read somewhere that one guy wished it was a smaller dot. What do you think?

Hard to spend more on a scope than I paid for my rifle. Shrug

Awhile ago, I bought an Ultimak/Primary Arms micro dot "bundle" off their website. I see they no longer offer it. It's this red dot that's on my rifle

I wish I knew why all their stuff is out of stock.

The 3 MOA dot isn't that bad. If you're trying to bench shoot the thing at 200 yards... yes it may be too big. However, if you're using the AK as it is to be used, 3MOA will be fine.

The option that Warpt posted is also a great option too. Doesn't make use of your Ultimak, but a good option... that is if you have a side optic mount on your AK.

Went to Gander Mt. today to touch and feel one of these scopes. I was really impressed with how small the darn things were. They had a TRS-25 in stock. It pretty much convinced me that I really want one for my AK.

But I would like to see what the other guys are going to bring out. I'm hoping to get it before I attend an upcoming Carbine course so I can use it there. So,they better get them in stock soon, or I'll go with the Burris.

Another happy PA Micro user here.

Mine must be a different version (maybe newer?) than Rich's. My on/off knob is on the right vs. the top. I've run a bunch of 3gun style matches with it and I dont baby my rifle. It just keeps on tickin. Mine holds zero like a champ too, even after dropping, running around, going prone, taking the top cover on/off, doesnt matter.

My only real gripe is, I wish the dot was a little smaller. I get hits, not groups. Well, that and the battery life isnt great. If you remember to turn it off between range sessions, youre good. I must have forgot last time because I had a dead battery. Thanks to the compartment in the US Palm grip, I had a spareCool Aimpoint claims like 4yrs or something crazy like that on a single battery, constant on, medium brightness.

I've never seen one of the Bushy's but heard pretty good things as far as reliability when compared to the PA's. some people have said the glass is a little on the blue-ish side though. You notice that at all when you were looking at one? IDK. For $100, you probably cant go wrong with either.

What class you taking soon? Jay (hi speed low drag) has an AK class coming up soon out your way.

I had a BSA Red Dot Scope on my AR15 that I co-witnessed my iron sights with. It was cheap enough at $59 from Wally World in Feb of 2010.

I was better using the iron sights. The Red Dot didn't have any reticle lines and unless I mounted the gun perfectly my shots would be off, without also using the iron sights. You can adjust the brightness of the dot which in effect makes the dot bigger and smaller

Long story short, I still have it, with a 3/8 - 5/8 rail clamp, the battery is dead, it's yours for $20 if ya want it, send a PM and we'll exchange addresses, I know your too far for a meet.

If mtbkski doesn't want it anyone else that wants it and is near DELCO I'll take $10 if ya come and get it at DCFS on a Sunday.

Soberbyker... thanks for the offer. But I think I really want that Burris. Unless PA comes up with something soon (they say they will be out in OCT.) I'm going with the Burris.

I'm signing up for the Combative Carbine Course being given by MDTS in Daisytown on the 20th of this month. http://www.mdtstraining.com/CCS.htm

I enjoyed the last class I took with Jay. Shooting in the cold and snow was a blast. Felt like we were on the Russian Front. Where and when is his next class?
