LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (Reuters) - Al Jazeera said on Wednesday it will buy Current TV, the struggling cable channel founded by Al Gore and partners, in a move that will boost the Qatar-based broadcaster's footprint in the United States.

Terms were undisclosed, but analysts estimated the deal could be worth as much as $500 million.

Al Jazeera said it would start a new U.S.-based news channel with the acquisition, which will make it available in more than 40 million U.S. households, up from 4.7 million prior to the deal.

The deal brings Al Jazeera, which operates under the patronage of the emir of Qatar and his family, into closer competition with American news channels like CNN, MSNBC and Fox.

$500M? That should be enough to cover Algore's electric bill for a couple of months. Maybe even give him a full tank of gas in one of his jets.

Over the last few years, I've found AJ to be quite informative and without as obvious a political or corporate narrative as most other TV "news" networks. I find it interesting to see what the world thinks about our political events. Oftentimes, headline news told there gets covered up here because it doesn't fit the narrative.

Since I don't know anyone who watched Current TV, I'm ok with this.

I have found the same over the last few years. I don't actively watch it but have looked a few times.

Also an interesting note, Glenn Beck said this morning he tried to get in on buying Current TV but was denied by Al Gore himself (previous owner). Mr Gore's representatives stated that such a move would cause Gore to have to explain himself to his allies. Apparently Aljazeera is less controversal than Glenn Beck.

I think it begs the question, who are algore's allies?

That didn't take long.

Al-Jazeera has long struggled to get carriage in the U.S., and the deal suffered an immediate casualty as Time Warner Cable Inc., the nation's second-largest cable TV operator, announced it is dropping Current TV due to the deal.

"Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service. We are removing the service as quickly as possible," the company said in a statement.

Well, the time is coming when all Americans are going to find out who in fact the Progressive's allies are.

Check out below:

Quote:Glenn Beck's Blaze Media approached the struggling cable news network last year, the Wall Street Journal reports, but was rebuffed because "the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view."

So apparently, a pro-islamist network with anti-israel & anti-amercian sentiment and who was the go-to network for Al Queda pimping Osama Bin Laden's videos after 9/11 is more in line with Al Gore's world view than Glen Beck.

Interesting.

Boy, I miss the days where they would just hide it or lie about it outright.

Time Waner and Cablevision are the two cable companies in NYC.

Maybe Al-Jazeera will blame it on the Jews.
