Alternative base "fuel" to use instead of wax for candles
#1
Hopefully this thread is unique enough from the other candle thread: http://www.pa2a.org/thread-candles

Within that thread I noticed 2 posts discussing alternate wax (fuel) which can EASILY be used make candles from.

In post # 17, Kodiak discussed using Crisco
In post #32, you can see a home made Bacon grease candle:

Can you/your family deal w/ bacon cooking smell?

I read about this in a book somewhere and tried it last night:
BACON GREASE CANDLES

We always save our grease. Once you get a container-full, what to do w/ the rest?

All I did was restrain the warm grease through a pin-punched coffee filter. You can see that I used a cotton string hung from a pen to keep the wick centered. After filling, I put the wick in place and put in the fridge.

VIOLA!Big Grin

(BTW-I only let it burn a couple minutes...did not detect much smell...but that is just me. YMMV)

Not really an alternate to wax, but an alternate source of wax. Been saving the wax from the Baby Bell cheeses.
