Another Letter from Mayors Against Guns
#1
I've posted three of these now. I'm getting them regularly from their group. The first one went into the Costas folder. I thought the second one should be in its own folder but it got moved into Costas. This one has nothing to do with Costas and I think it would be a good idea to stay on top of what they are up too as long as they keep me on their mailing list - I'll keep posting.

Dear XXXXXX,

On Tuesday, another shooting took two innocent lives in Oregon. Our hearts go out to their families. We know they're hurting today.

This happens all the time. That's why more than 725 mayors decided to get involved - because 34 Americans are murdered with guns every day in ways that don't make headlines.

So while our hearts are in Oregon, I hope you'll turn your eyes to Michigan, where we beat the NRA yesterday.

The state legislature was on the brink of eliminating background checks for private handgun sales. The House had already passed a bill to eliminate a system that kept nearly 3,000 criminals, domestic abusers and other dangerous people from getting their hands on a pistol in Michigan -- in 2011 alone.

The bill was cruising to passage in the Senate until just a few weeks ago.

Then Michigan mayors, police and grassroots supporters like you noticed. They organized, mobilized and lobbied. They stopped the bill in its tracks.

And yesterday, the Senate passed a bill that preserves background checks for all handgun sales - a total victory for Lansing against the NRA's Washington lobbyists.

If you can, please make a small donation so we can take this fight to other states. When we fight, we win. But we need your support.

Thanks for keeping Oregon in your thoughts. Thanks for having your faith, or your fury, or your optimism, or whatever inspired you to support us.

Because things are starting to change, and you're the reason why.

Sincerely,

Mark Glaze

Latest letter after the CT school shootings. They now have a new URL and site called demandaplan.org.

Dear Robert,

My heart aches for the families of Newtown, Connecticut.

We need to reach out to the loved ones of those who were murdered and to the community that has been shattered. We need to let them know that they are in our thoughts and our prayers, and that we are ready to do what it takes to make sure a tragedy like this never happens again.

Share your personal message of condolence with the families of Newtown, Connecticut.

I've heard a lot of promises from politicians since my daughter was murdered in Tucson, Arizona, including President Obama. But I am still waiting for them to act.

And I'm not alone in my frustration. As horrible as it sounds, mass shootings have become common in our country, and 34 Americans are murdered with guns every single day. That means 48,000 people will be murdered with guns in the president's next term. Yet our broken laws remain broken, and our leaders have yet to step forward with a plan to end gun violence.

We need to make sure today's terrible tragedy is the last of its kind. We need to make a promise to ourselves and demand action from our leaders.

Please join me in sharing your feelings -- and your promise -- with those who have lost so much:

Thank you for your support,

Roxanna Green

Here is the latest missive:

Dear Robert,

It took only a few minutes for the shooter in Newtown, CT to kill a classroom of school children. And it will only take a few minutes for you to make your voice heard.

Call your members of Congress RIGHT NOW and Demand A Plan to end gun violence.

Yesterday, President Obama announced a new task force headed by Vice President Biden to address the epidemic of gun violence in America. He committed to delivering a set of concrete proposals no later than January that will be turned into law as fast as possible.

But, as he said, he can’t do this alone.

That's why you and I need to step up. We need to let our representatives in Congress know -- in no uncertain terms -- that it's time to act.

Legislation is going to take shape very quickly, and there are three common sense principals that must be included in any comprehensive plan:

1. Require a criminal background check for every gun sold in America.

2. Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that enable mass killing.

3. Make gun trafficking a federal crime, with stiff penalties for those who arm criminals.

We will never be able to stop all gun violence, but these steps will go a long way to preventing the next mass shooting and saving the lives of the 34 Americans who are murdered with guns every day.

Join me in making sure your elected officials know how important this issue is to you and your family.

Make the call right now and demand a comprehensive plan to end gun violence from your members of Congress:

Thank you for speaking up at this crucial moment!

I stopped posting the copies I get of these as there didn't seem to be much interest. However, I got one every day for the last month and in the last two days, I am now getting two a day. They are heavily funded by Bloomberg and they are bombarding everyone who shows the slightest interest in their cause and soliciting them to take action.

I sense we need to be doing more grassroots and contact our state politicians.

Please do keep posting them Bob. If nothing else it gives me something to laugh at, at least I would if I weren't fuming.

Latest letter with lies that banning AR's and high cap mags is what overwhelming majority of Americans including gun owners and the NRA want. And, later in the letter they contradict that saying NRA wants no changes. This is all supported by law enforcement experts too. One lie after another after another.

Please click on this link right now and call your members of Congress!

Dear Robert,

Even before the President announced his plan to fix our gun laws, the NRA was flooding Congress with calls to fight reform.

My daughter, Emily, was shot at Virginia Tech in 2007 and survived. I’ve seen the results of our broken gun laws with my own eyes -- and that’s why I’ve been fighting for the past five years for the same common sense solutions President Obama recommended to Congress.

Call your members of Congress TODAY and tell them you support the president’s priorities to end gun violence.

Here’s what Congress can do if the gun lobby doesn’t scare them off:

Require a criminal background check for every gun sold in this country.
Stop the sale of military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines.
Make gun trafficking a federal crime with harsh penalties.

These are simple solutions that will save lives. They don’t interfere with the Second Amendment, and they are popular with the overwhelming majority of Americans -- including gun owners and NRA members.

So, why is the gun lobby’s extreme leadership so hell-bent on preventing common sense reform?

It’s simple. The NRA is so out of touch with the people they claim to represent that they’ve decided any law restricting access to guns -- no matter how well supported by facts or by law enforcement experts -- is a slippery slope that will lead to some mythical government gun grab.

It’s ludicrous and self-serving, but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous.

That’s why I need you to make a call right now. And keep calling in the weeks and months ahead -- our opponents certainly will:

If there's one thing I've learned in the past five years, it's that if we want to keep our children safe, we can't scare easy.

Thank you for not backing down!

If a majority of Americans wanted "assault weapons" banned, they wouldn't be the most popular type of gun sold the last few years.

Why anyone would sign up to receive shite like this is beyond me. These are usually spread around by empty headed anti gun minions.
I "had" a friend that would send me this crap all the time and I since then threw him out of my address list and blocked his messages.
"The colors, the colors. Has anybody seen my good friend John?" Then he lit up a banana and he hung up.

Al Bundy.

For the same reason the allies put so much effort into capturing a German Enigma machine. When you know the enemies plans, you can more effectively plan your defenses and counter attacks.
