Anti In-Laws
#1
So my wife had an interesting conversation with her parents last night. Little back-story first: My in-laws know I carry and they have asked me not to carry in their home. I respect their wishes and lock the gun in the car when we go to visit them. They know I am an ardent 2A supporter, so last night's conversation seemed a little odd.

My wife was on the phone with her mother about a gift she sent us. Next thing I know I'm hearing my wife telling her mother "not to worry, he has safes." So obviously my MIL wanted to question any and all firearms I have in the house now that we have a child. (I have safes, I lock everything up. Even if I didn't, the kid is 4 months old... she can't even crawl yet. Not like she's magically going to pick up a gun.)

Next I hear, "because it's a hobby of his." Oh goodie! I really don't need this shit. What my MIL doesn't realize is that it's not just a hobby, but with my YouTube channel I do make some money (not enough to quit my job or anything). Plus, no matter where you stand on firearms you should understand wanting to protect your family.

When my wife got off the phone I had to ask her what that was all about. Apparently my wife shared my Amazon Wishlist with my MIL. I have some firearms-related stuff on there like targets, cleaning supplies and a rifle scope. (BTW: standard scope, nothing fancy) So my MIL was questioning why I would need a night-vision scope (which it's not). Basically she's concerned about some of the items on there and with everything that is going on might be concerned that I'm going to be the next mass-shooter.

I'm not even going to indulge in a conversation with her about firearms. She's not going to change and I'm not either. It's just disconcerting that she knew I own guns and then questions firearms-related items on a wishlist?

On top of everything else, my FIL is a former Marine and her son (my BIL) was in the Army for 6 years. But there they sit, registered Dem and not happy with guns.

Very similar situation here except that now my FIL is getting into it too and bought himself an AR over the fall. MIL is not happy at all. She recently found out I carry and expressed how little she liked that. I haven't been barred from her home yet (still hoping). Enjoy your videos btw I am subscribed.

I feel your pain.

I suspect many family gatherings this year will be quite interesting.

The "see something, say something" crowd is a bit troubling, however.

I enjoy every minute of it.

I am supposed to be going to my BIL/SIL house tomorrow. I don't know where he stands on gun control, although he is a Philly liberal so I have an idea. She's a Canadian and has posted a couple of Facebook things about banning assault weapons.

They know I carried all the time as an LEO. I don't remember if I have been to their house since I retired. I still carry all of the time and the chances of my locking a gun in my car in Philadelphia is zero. Neither have said anything about coming to their house armed. Perhaps they haven't given it a thought. I don't intend to say anything nor will I be obviously armed

I'm hoping we have a smooth visit so my wife can see her brother and her nieces without drama. That will fill my yearly obligation to drive into Philly. Even once a year is too much but what can I do, it's family.

No shock there. Many service people are brainwashed into thinking that unless you've been trained the gov you shouldn't carry a gun.
Even bases are effectively gun free zones. Fort Hood never would have happened if every day soldiers were allowed to protect themselves.

I already told my wife, who carries, that if any of her "stupid liberal asshole relatives says anything about this shit at Christmas, I will not hold back my verbal wrath!"

Pretty sure the phone and text warnings went out soon after.

I'm glad I was able to convert my girlfriends parents. Her dad wasn't so much anti but more I don't care but her mom was anti. She was afraid of the unknown. I was told to never bring a firearm into their house, etc... I've had a few educational conversations with them. Now they all have their LTCFs but have yet to purchase something to carry. With current events they under stand that ultimately they are responsible for their safety.

The only comments they make now that are somewhat anti are relating to when I OC but they don't really care.

My wife has asked if it comes up, to debate civilly. I will because I have facts on my side. As to the antis...we'll see. It's hard to debate when your stance is emotion driven.

Going to have to one-up you... my MIL is terrified of guns, yet she thought it would be funny to try and yank my 1911 out of my i.w.b. on turkey day. Knowing it was her, as she's the only one stupid enough to try that in our family, I trapped her hand gently but firmly and told her right in front of several family members "it's fools like you that get people killed... not by me, but by you!" Apparently, despite have cooked thanksgiving dinner AND having cleaned up afterwards, it is my fault that her thanksgiving was ruined.

Of course, this same brainless idiot debated her NEUROSURGEON NEPHEW about the migraine headaches one of the grandkids were getting.
