SANTA MONICA, Calif. – A crusade against toy guns that began in 1987 is being re-launched following the elementary school shooting in Connecticut that left dozens dead.
Santa Monica activist Jerry Rubin says a personalized merit award will be sent to children who write to him about why they don't like playing with toy guns.
Rubin says his anti-toy gun project used to reward children who sent in their toy guns with teddy bears in exchange, but stopped after he ran out of the 5,000 donated stuffed animals.
Less than two weeks ago, 20 children and six adults were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Just read this. Certainly won't apply to my kids, or my sisters' kids. (My kids like a few play guns but my nephews have like an arsenal of them.)

I'd venture to say more kids play "shoot" in video games than cap guns any day...

A personalized merit award you say?

Fancy schmancy.

How about the antigun movie and anti-gun video game crowd?

They seem to be rather quiet.
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to. Smile

The toy gun thing always amazes me. On one hand I think its important to maintain a separation or use their toy guns to train them on how to handle a real gun (ie the 4 rules).

The thing is the morons never think about the reality of the situation. Guns are everywhere in movies, TV, comic books, games you name it.

In my entire life I have never seen a male child between 6-12 years old who within 20 minutes of playing with a friend or going outside that will not automatically pick up the nearest straight stick or metal pole and pretend it's a gun adding their own sound effects. I swear its an instinct they have at that age.

I had this discussion before on the other site and I feel like give the kids all the toy guns they want so long as they know the difference and remember the 4 rules when they handle a real one. Sorry to the 2nd wave feminists and bleeding hearts who don't want to accept that girls gravitate towards girl things and boys gravitate toward boy things and... news flash to the PC libtards! THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!! Recognizing generalized gender roles can still allow for children on both ends of the continuum! Some boys are more into some of the stuff than others, just let them be who they want to be without forcing this adult over politicized shit on them they are too young to understand.

Just because a boy wants to play with trucks, toy trains, and toy guns does not mean that he will grow up to be a chauvinist monster who berates or degrades women and whatever else. The people who stress about this shit are the kind of people who get offended when they see a man hold a door open for a woman out of politeness and habit.

God forbid, in this day and age the 3rd grade boy who wants to dress up as a policeman on Halloween with a lime-green clear plastic squirt gun. He's probably be suspended for a month and then made to see a psychiatrist because there's obviously something wrong with him.

The way people think in this country these days makes me sick, plain and simple.

It is not necessary to have testicles to play with toy guns as a kid. One of my favorite toys when I was an elementary school kid myself was a very realistic looking cap gun version of a 1911.

I used to play CIA assassin with the other kids in town all the time. It was like hide and seek, but whoever was 'It' had the cap gun and their goal was to shoot all the spies before they returned to the safe house from their hiding spots.

Right now every Lego creation or stick that resembles an "L" also doubles as a gun for my 5 year old. Guess its one of those things.

And my 7 year old that loves guns....he would scream and run from a teddy bear.
