Any gemtech G5 owners here?
#1
A few years back I bought a Gemtech G5, I didn't really do a whole lot of research on it, and it was only after I had it for a couple of years that I found all the "controversy" that is out there about this suppressor, and the company.

So far I've got around 500 rounds through it, no complaints, but I do wish I had put a little more research into this before buying..

ANyway, anyone else here own one?

I spent a great deal of time reading into the bashfest around the Internet on the G5. To me it seemed exactly like the Glock hatred. AAC performs a test (wherein it is said the first round through the can sent sparks down range, baffle strike?), the can falls apart. It gets posted on the interwebs and everybody goes apeshit. Meanwhile some other dudes perform the same test with no problems and post the results on youtube also. Bottom line is I have been hardpressed to find any other unhappy G5 owners citing personal experiences. G5s are actively used by some in the military. I know mine will never see the kind of use displayed in the test performed by AAC. Even if the poop hits the fan, I just don't see running them that hard.

I originally intended to buy one G5 and one M4-2000. After questionable communication issues with a local dealer while waiting for a G5, I connected with Kirk (Force Gun Shop) on poofa and bought a second G5. Several months later the first G5 came in, so I now have paperwork out on two of them with no regrets. Now, maybe I will wind up putting my foot into my mouth once I have them, but based on the reading that I have done I am pretty confident in the G5.

I was skeptical of the AAC test..Any test performed by a competitor on another competitors product is going to be biased, or at the very least you would be hard pressed to convince people that there was no bias.

One thing that does concern me were the claims of a welded core on the G5 which AAC proved was not the case. I thought I read somewhere that gemtech did start welding their cores after that test, but of course I have no way to determine if mine is one of those or not..

I thought I had read the exact same thing but now that I am searching again I can't seem to turn up anything saying that. I do remember it clearly though.

There is some interesting discussion at this link which you may have already seen. Again you notice the original tester from AAC seems to be the most outspoken person against Gemtech in the entire thread making it very difficult to dismiss the possibility of bias.
