Anyone else NOT shooting anymore because you don't want to waste ammo?
#1
Even .22 ammo is getting expensive. $28 for a brick, seriously? I miss the days of plinking and not worrying about the availability of ammo. Fortunately I stacked it deep a few years ago when I first got into guns, but I've been just shooting my stockpile and I just dipped below 1K for all my major calibers, I have no extra cash, and ammo is absurdly expensive right now. So I just don't shoot anymore. Shrug

Anyone else in the same boat?

28 for a brick? I can get federal bulk for $19.

I have cut down. I recieved my new red dot for the AR, shot 12 rounds to sight it in, then locked the rest up.

I am mainly shooting my 17, and I am contemplating getting a marlin 975 so I can get trigger time and not break the bank.

The local shop has limited all ammo to one "case" per day, per person. So I have been going and getting a brick each day the past week or so. I figure that way I can at least go out and have some fun.

.22 only. Everything else I'm treating like gold because it's getting that rare and expensive. Should the Republican House shut all this crap down, I'll be stocking up when things return to "normal".

I'm not shooting much either.

Oddly enough though, I have more ammo now than I think I have ever had on hand at one time. I just finished sorting and counting it all up noting the brands and types (fmj/jhp/etc) and writing dates purchased and price paid on each box.

I probably wont be shooting the AR for a while, but I do have about 600 rds of Wolf for the AK that I'm OK with shooting up.

Like many, I'll be shooting mostly .22LR.
I have a .22LR dedicated upper for the AR, the .22 AK47, and the Plinkster.

I have a hard time finding Federal 550 rd bulk around here.
I found some WWB 555 rd bulk and bought it, but I don't know if it will work in my rifles - I know the Plinkster doesn't care for it.

If you want some of the federal bulk, I know a place that has stacks of it. But, like I said, they are limiting it.

From what they were saying, they were trying to order it, but even that was on back order.

So a friend and I have been going up every day.

I hate to get in on the "panic" buying. But with everyone else going nuts, I figure if I don't, it might be months before I can get any more. I'm even picking up federal .45, just so I can have a supply of brass. Tons of bullets, powder, and primers to be had here. But no brass.

I do, but you're a bit of a drive from here.
I mentioned in a Wmart ammo thread that if anyone in Pgh sees any of the Federal 555 bulk packs to pick me up a few or three and I'll pay them for it, but at 10mpg, I'd be better off buying from somewhere online and paying shipping than driving to Oil City. It would be different if I drove up that way on occasion.

Thanks though.

The only thing I will shoot at the moment is my 9mm. 223 5.56 and even as mentioned 22lr is is difficult if not impossible to get.

I'm shooting about the same. 1-2 IDPA Matches per month throughout the winter. Depending on the match and the round count, I'm going through about ~250 rounds per month.

I was able to pick up 1,000 rounds of 9mm at Walmart on New Year's Day. Between that and the fact that I plan to start reloading very soon, I'm hoping that helps get me through this mess (I have 2,000 rounds for USPSA Season set aside as well)

At the last couple of matches there have been a good number of new shooters. If the ammo situation continues to be a problem, I wouldn't be surprised to see attendance start to taper off.

If you guys want to keep your ammo stock piled and not shoot it.....get into the gun business as a second full time job. You wont have free time to shoot. LOL

Other than that, 5.45x39 mag dumps all day long thanks to early planning.
Plenty of reloading components for 9, 45, and 300Blk, just need to make time to do it.

Still shooting just as frequent but definitely trying to change my habits when I go. I'm only shooting what I reload and 22lr. I've got a stock of reloading components that should keep me going with the pistol calibers and 5.56 through the rest of the year. Hopefully I'll find a window to resupply along the way in case this lasts into 2014. I'll need bullets before anything else.

My emergency stockpile is absolutely off limits unless I get word that streaker has run outside naked and the troops are assembling.
