It has been a big year for Tim Cook.

Approximately one year ago he took the reigns of what some consider the most valuable company in the world: Apple. He had enormous shoes to fill as he succeeded Steve Jobs.

This morning, Bloomberg's Businessweek.com published an interview with Cook. In that interview he told the reporter that he intends to bring some of the production of the MAC back to US soil.

" . . . And next year we are going to bring some production to the U.S. on the Mac. We've been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013." he told Bloomberg's Josh Tyrangiel.

This is great news for the economy as Cook says the company plans to invest nearly $100 million into this homecoming.

Still won't prompt me to run out and buy an overpriced Mac. Tongue

All my PCs run linux and my main box is a Macbook Pro 17" 8-core.

I don't let shitty software run on my bare metal. I haven't booted Windows natively since 1999.

My son uses a Macbook provided by the school district for the teachers' use and it's not a bad machine. I am not a Mac hater per se; I just think they're overpriced. Some of the Mac fanboys get a bit annoying at times, too, but to each his own.

I run Linux Mint on a couple of my machines, but I'm far from a software purist. If it works for me, I'll use it. Win 7 is OK by me, but my needs are fairly basic.

I have a MacBook for my laptop. Win7 is my primary as iMacs don't run good games like MW3 or Black Ops

I stopped buying Mac's after Apple stopped supporting relatively new platforms such as the Mac Classic and left me with a useless computer (My grad school was all Apple/Mac).

Not to mention the fact that Mac is proprietary, no competition, you have to buy from Mac to run on a Mac.

Splash, I owe you an apology for crapping in your thread. I don't hate Macs and I didn't want it to turn into that.

I'm glad to see some manufacturing coming back to the US. It's about time. Steve took some heat for his use of Chinese production.

If we can get them to use US components, it's even better. TBH, that could be a good enough reason to consider buying a Mac.

you got that right... whenever mac switched to intel instead of ppc, they basically flipped off all the ppc folks and said... buy osx 10.5 or get the hell out of town.

True...but there are hacks. I bought an OS X disc at a haji shop on a US base in Iraq and had it running on a dell laptop.

All it is likely, is FreeBSD unix with a Mac GUI, but I'm not that geeky to dig into the software.

I will say, that I like apple for the sleek factor, but their OS's do not impress me much.
