AR weight difference?
#1
Why does my Stag Model1 weigh twice as much has my Spikes LE Upper on a Stag Lower? The weight difference is really a lot. Any ideas why? both are bare bones no frills rifles.

Are the barrel profiles the same?

My guess is barrels and or hand guards/rails?

They are the same set up except the stag has a front sling attachment. The weight difference is VERY noticeable.

Did you look under the handguards?

One of them probably has a full contour heavy barrel. It is also possible one has an H3 buffer, which is considerably heavier a standard.

I have one with an H3 buffer and M16 BCG, one without, not that big a diff. Im betting youre right on your first guess, of the barrel.

Along the same lines, I was sorely disappointed to find out my polymer lower is only slightly lighter than my aluminum lower. That it only cost me $120 though AND I have a complete lower with a trigger group and stock that can be used on other lowers gives it a slight pass.

Remember, a formula 1 racing team will spend $10000 to shave one pound of curb weight, or $100000 to shave one pound of unsprung weight.

Being lightweight costs $$$$$.

The M777 155mm towed howitzer is a perfect example of this. An M777 costs like 5x more than an old M198....but it is about half the weight.
