AR15 Blasters vs. Classic Look?
I've been seeing a trend lately in the AR world...I call it the Blaster look! Long fore grips and styled stocks and even those fancy billet lowers with angled mag wells, etc...

Here are a few examples of blasters:

Here is the classic military look:

Where I do like to look at fresh designs and new styles...I think I still prefer the classic AR15 look over these new Blasters! I don't even mind Magpul stuff since most of their products are modest. I'm just not a big fan of Faxon, Fortis, Midwest Industries and all the other fancy AR products out there.

What do you guys think?
A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
I thought the "Slab side" was classic? Wink

I can't say I'm a fan of the last one. I seriously hate those Seekins lowers.
The new look is OK but I like the classic look a lot more. Some of the new stuff looks too futuristic for my taste, but to each his own.
das, proud to be a member of since Sep 2012.
I voted all the above.

I'm one of those shallow people who is concerned about the visual look of a gun, and like the stylized look as well as the very classic (like baconfat linked) looks. Some 'blaster' rifles look cool, others don't. Same with the "operator" cheese that gets added to them--some look well done, others not so much.

What I find intriguing, is the wood furniture AR's:

Something about them is appealing.

And honestly, I even find the Cali/Conn compliant look somewhat appealing, but as an option not a requirement:

I picked up a lower a couple weeks ago for a future build and I'm completely sold on going with wood furniture, love the look.
Here's an interesting take on the classic look:

I really like the wood furniture. I just wonder if it is as unweildly as it looks.

I was thinking how old I was because THAT is the classic look.
Dave, proudly annoying members of since Sep 2012.
Having used a more classic version, I gotta say... MORE COWBELL.

While the futuristic looks of new variants may be un-appealing, the functionality is what makes it work. The combination of form and function is an imperative. Those old style AR/M16s with the triangular fore end and anything with a carry handle are uncomfortable and near to useless for any, ANY... accessories. I remember trying to mount a gen-II night vision with that little single point swivel nut on the carry handle. You had to really crane your neck to see and it was completely impossible to zero.

It was also very fatiguing to shoot prone with carry handled rifles.
tolerance for failure meter... LOW
