AR15 Pistols in 22LR - Affordable Plinker - Who Makes Them?
#1
I have at least a few months to research this and save up the money to proceed, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other manufacturers that offer a .22LR "AR15" pistol?

Also, if you own one, what are your likes/dislikes?

Initially I was only aware of the Chiappa M4-22 pistol which I had planned on buying, as I already have a Chiappa M4 22LR UPPER for my AR15, and it has run well for me. I already have at least a dozen mags (including a 50 rd drum) that could be shared with the pistol version.

I'd prefer to get something that uses the mags I already own. The Chiappa factory mags as well as the Black Dog mags are interchangeable with many 22AR variants and conversion kits currently on the market.

Note: How can that carry handle work as "sights"?
Wouldn't that only be the REAR sight? Maybe they created a carry handle with the front blade built into the front? I need to look into THAT.

Which brings us to one that does NOT use the same mags. (unfortunately)

The S&W M&P 15-22P (pistol)

Apparently this is no longer in production. Heh. Who knew? I didn't even know it existed until yesterday.

Anyway, while the M&P series of 22LR ARs are a proven design, I do not like the fact that they use a proprietary mag.

I couldn't find any company info on these.
They appear to be made of metal as opposed to polymer.
I believe Uramex makes the Colt branded LR AR15s. Not sure if they share the same mags, or if they are a proprietary type of mag.

Do you know of any others that I've missed?
Huh

THANKS! Smile

CMMG - Sort of ...

Buy/Build yourself a "standard" AR pistol lower.

By the .22 specific Barrel/Bolt assy from CMMG (CMMG 6.5" Barrel and .22 Bolt Assy.) and chuck them in a upper.

Go have fun.

I'm pretty sure BDM mags are compatible.
With a chamber adapter you could run the bolt in another .223 upper.
You can build an "other caliber" pistol upper to run on that lower.
You might be able to run the .22 without a (full length) buffer tube.

Interesting.

Wouldn't a 9mm AR pistol be a hoot.

Hmmm...

Hahn Precision has several different 9mm & .45 magwell adapters that fit in a standard AR lower.

but not the standard aluminum lower, its more expensive but a dedicated lower and one of Rons upper does the job nicely

You guys are going to have me liking the AR platform if you keep this up.
Wink

Slight derail:
I really do not like AR15 pistols (.223) or AK47 pistols. I think they are dumb. Cool, yes, but not something I would spend money on. It's a personal thing - the AK "pistols" are way too heavy and the ARs... that buffer tube sticking out the back? DUMB. No thank you.

THAT said, I DO like the new "arm brace" craziness because that creates a really, really handy home defense package and I'd actually consider getting one after having handled one with that "brace" (cough stock cough) on it.

A 9mm AR with one of those would be the icing on the cake.

All THAT said, I just want an inexpensive "just because I want it" gun and a .22LR AR pistol that uses the same mags I already own would fit that want to a tee.
I mean, a 50 round DRUM mag on a .22 handgun? Heck yeah. Big Grin

Good to know and sorry for calling your AR pistol with a table leg sticking out the back "dumb".

Big Grin

Tongue

Wink

Eventually, I'd like to do a 9mm AR. Not sure about the pistol though for the reason stated, but with the "brace"? Heck yeah.
No money now though, so that will have to wait. Gives me time to research.

the pistol buffer tube on the back acts just like the brace. the 45 is fun, my 5.56 makes shooting barn rats a blast. as soon as my hands heal im going to shoot my buddies 300 blackout. the ar pistol serves a purpose, for longer distance i can pick up my sks or m1a
i didnt think much of the ar platform until i built the pistol....now its like crack
