Quote:ARMED 70-YEAR-OLD WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH SHOOTS ATTACKERS WHILE WALKING TWO PLAYERS TO THEIR CARS

A 70-year-old women’s high school basketball coach shot and killed one would-be mugger and injured another while walking two players to their cars Friday night in Detroit, WXYZ-TV reported.

One of the attackers died and the other was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Sources told WXYZ the coach was also a reserve police office with a license to carry a concealed pistol. One of the teens was also armed with a gun.

Interesting - he is a coach but not a teacher. He had a weapon in school???

Said be is a "reserve police office with a license to carry a concealed pistol."

I wonder how all that works in Detroit?

The one(s) trying to rob him, yes?

Well the grammar here isn't stellar (especially the first sentence) but if their grammar is correct then it sounds like one of the players had a gun. Which seems odd.

Makes me wonder if the student was expecting a confrontation.

Well I was kind of meaning a little more than that....high school students shouldn't even be carrying guns....which makes me wonder if there was some sort of gang or other type of confrontation going on and the teen brought the gun AND asked the coach to escort them out becuase they knew the bad guys would be waiting. I'm surprised the article didn't make a big deal about the teenager carrying a gun.

One of the robbers had the gun, not the students being escorted.

Oh ok....well the word "also" in the article denotes that the coach had a gun, and "also" one of the teens......right after saying the muggers were injured/dead and not even mentioning the ages of the muggers. Poorly written article.
