I'm tellin' ya, all the ridiculous publicity that wreaks havoc on the entire country just encourages more crazy people to try it so they can have their turn in the limelight.

Its a vicious cycle.

It's clearly a society problem.

This didn't take long. Saw this on a "friend"'s FB page : NRA Proven Wrong as Armed Deputy on Campus Couldn’t Prevent CA School Shooting

Excerpt: "So much for the NRA’s talking points on armed patrols putting an end to gun violence in schools. Vice President Joe Biden’s presentation on how the Obama administration plans to address gun violence in the United States was interrupted today by news of yet another school shooting. This one happened in a school that has “a uniform deputy sheriff monitoring campus ‘before, during and after school.’”

My reply: "I'd say one down is better than 20+. I'd also say that I don't think having one armed cop per thousand kids or so is the solution. I'd rather an armed criminal not know the extent or specific identity of the resistance he will have to overcome to be "successful".

That said, I feel like the NRA's suggestion was terrible. To expect one or two officers to protect a school is a ridiculous plan that is bound to fail, and when it does, the other side will say "See, we tried it your way, now let's try our way. Ban guns". It would have been much more reasonable of them to say that we should perhaps offer to teachers and school administrators the same pistol qualification that we do for LEOs. If they wanted to, they could qualify with a weapon and carry it. That solution makes much more sense than adding a cop here and there. If you post a cop outside, the next shooter knows he just needs to take out that officer from the treeline before he can begin his rampage. If they know that some people are armed, but don't know who or how many, now that's a deterrent.

The qualification part is said in compromise. I truly think they should be able to carry in school with a LCTF, and would bet that many LCTF holders are more proficient with their sidearms than some LEOs, but I think the fear of collateral damage in a school shooting would terrify some parents if they didn't think some sort of training was involved.

It wouldn't matter. These people are bound and determined to eliminate gun ownership. You could present the perfect case to them and they'd still tell you it wasn't optimal, and that there's no reason anybody should have guns.
