ATTEMPTED ROBBERY VICTIM FATALLY SHOOTS TOY GUN-WIELDING SUSPECT IN UPPER DARBY

Quote:UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police say a man fatally shot a pellet gun-wielding suspect during an attempted robbery in Upper Darby.

The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Cobbs Creek Park near the 6700 block of Church Lane.

Investigators say a 67-year-old man was walking on a path when a suspected robber ran up and demanded cash.

"He hears somebody running behind him. As he turns around, he sees a masked man with a gun pointed at him saying, 'Give it up, give me all you got," said Supt. Michael Chitwood, Upper Darby Township Police.

However the intended victim grabbed the suspect's gun.

During the struggle, police say the victim pulled out his own weapon and fired one shot striking the attempted robber in the head, killing him.

The victim does have a concealed weapons permit.

"He was really shook up - really upset. And I told him point blank. I said, 'You did what you had to do and as far as I'm concerned I don't see any criminal charges forthcoming,'" said Supt. Chitwood.

Sources say the suspected robber has been identified as an 18-year-old West Philadelphia man.

Police say he had a half dozen cell phones, a mask and the weapon he had was actually a pellet gun.

"It's a shame somebody had to die. At the end of the day but the bad guy pulling the stick up - lost," said Supt. Chitwood.

It's not a shame someone had to die. It's a shame that dead motherfucker was able to successfully rob at least six people THAT DAY before his flame was snuffed out.

The world is a better place now.

Stupid thug. There is nothing more dangerous than an old man with a gun.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

That was my initial response as well. Beyond that, can't feel sorry for a guy that bought his own fate.

Some pellet guns and BB guns look very much like a firearm. I don't blame the intended victim in the least. It's not like he was given time to inspect said "toy gun" before hand to determine it wasn't a threat. Not to mention some pellet guns are just as deadly as a firearm.

It damn sure is a shame! He was such a good boy and a gem of a human being! He just told his momma before going out that he was going to quit smoking crack tomorrow! He just needed a little money so he could buy a suit for his job interview and to fill out college applications! It's whitey's fault for being so trigger happy and not waiting to see if he had a 9mm in his face or a BB gun.

Such a tragedy. Sad

Quote:According to Chitwood, the 67-year-old man later complained of chest pains and was admitted overnight at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Chitwood said he paid him a visit.

“You want to know what kind of guy he is? His girlfriend came to the hospital and he and the girlfriend prayed for the bad guy,” Chitwood said.

Wow. Even though I don't believe, that's some character right there.
