AZ CWP Online/Home Course
#1
I've been anxiously waiting to post this since February but I wanted to make sure everything came through okay. I set out earlier in the year to get my AZ CWP because I knew we were planning a trip to Rehoboth Beach DE in June. I sent off my application packet on 2/21 thinking I'd have more than enough time. Just my luck, the date for our trip came up and I still hadn't received anything. Open carry is not my thing, I was traveling with my wife and two kids so even the vehicle open carry was sketchy at best since they want it visible in plain view. After reading multiple conversations about proper/legal vehicle open carry, I elected to go unarmed much to my dismay. We returned home to PA on Wednesday (6/5) and wouldn't you know it I got my AZ CWP in the mail today (6/7).

At any rate, what I wanted to share is how I went about meeting the training requirement for AZ for anybody else who finds themselves unable to attend a multiple hour sitdown session. I stumbled upon John Hansen with Black Wolf Defense and read a few positive reviews on various forums. For $30 I figured it was worth a shot and contacted John via email. His replies were prompt, and upon telling him that I wanted to do the course he sent me all of the necessary reading material in PDF form. The material covered AZ specific laws, and IMO was very thorough and informative. Once complete, I mailed him a money order for $30 and a copy of a training registration form with my name, address, DOB, etc. Within a week I received a packet back from him containing my training certificate, fingerprint cards, and the AZ CWP application.

I had to do some searching around to get my fingerprints done. I contacted my local township PD and was advised to try UPS, if I didn't have any luck they could make arrangements to do them for me but they generally didn't have anybody onsite to do them. I tried the Hazleton State Police barracks where apparently only one officer is trained to do fingerprinting, and wouldn't you know it he was sick and on vacation for the entire three weeks of calling back every couple days before I got fed up. Finally, I contacted Conyngham Borough PD and the nightshift guy told me to come on over the following night and he would take my prints. It was funny because they were having a borough meeting that night and several people saw me getting fingerprinted, then gave funny looks when I later walked out of the building. The prints were free of charge, the officer jokingly stated that I could buy him a coffee if I ever see him around, to which I happily agreed and intend to do.

So alas, I now have the permit, better late than never. More importantly, no issues with the training. The only downside is that NV has since dropped their agreement with AZ but at least I'm covered the next time we go to Delaware....for now.
The law? The law is a human institution...

Thank you for the heads up on the online training course.

Wish I would have known. It took me 20 weeks of training to qualify Wink
I produced precise formulations for what you call, "Black Powder," for General Washington. If not for me, you would be speaking the Queen's English today. Say my name, which you cannot find with an internet search, proud to be a member of pa2a.org since Sep 2012.
