BassPro crazy prices
#1
So my NRA BassPro gift card finally showed up and I went to the BassPro site to spend it.

Geez!

Everything there is 25-33% higher than it is at, say, Amazon. And their shipping charges are archaically regressive, going UP as a function of the price of the merchandise. Guess they've never heard of "if it fits it ships." Either that or they know there's profit to be made in marking-up shipping. At least they know they have a problem, offering a free shipping sale on $75.00 orders (of about $50.00 worth of merchandise).

Feh.

Tell me about it! I ended up buying a Gerber Gator Jr. Machete for $22 and it cost me only $4.00 out of pocket for the extra tax and shipping so that wasn't too bad. Nice tool also! I am impressed considering how inexpensive it was!

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

The sales tax thing is what bites my ass. If a company is not headquartered in Pa and you're buying online why should you be paying tax?

I was always under the impression that if they have a business in the state you're taxed.

True, but it still sucks. All they need is a distribution center and you get taxed. It doesn't even need to be staffed by company employees. Anything to get into our pockets.

Even if they didn't have a location in the state, you'd still be required to pay the "Use Tax" on items you purchase out of state or shipped via online purchases.

I'm sure everyone here filled out their Use Tax line on the state taxes this year, right?

I'm positive that my accountant took care of that for us. Big Grin
