Before you build that cache tube, read this
location, contents, and purpose

Are you thinking about building a cache tube to store some SHTF survival gear in? Before you go out and start buying materials, let’s go over some basic questions you should ask yourself first.

What kind of a disaster are you storing gear for? Chances are a cache tube is not going to be of much service after a hurricane, wild fire, or earthquake. In most cases, cache tubes are put down for a complete collapse of society situation.

What kind of gear do you want to store in the cache tube? In a complete collapse of society, we would need access to food, water, fire and security.

I don't really understand the point. Why would you be burying food? Where would you bury it? In what situation would that be helpful?

If you are bugging in, you should have those supplies in your house already. If you are bugging out, you should have enough supplies in your BOB or BOV to make it to wherever you are going. The whole idea of storing supplies along the way just doesn't seem realistic to me.

You're right, if your plan is to murder police officers and then hide in the woods like a coward, having cache tubes buried everywhere is probably a good idea. For the rest of us, I don't really see the application.

The one application that I see is if you have a BOL some distance away, that you may hide things between your primary location and BOL.

This survival thing sounds like a whole lot of work.
No thanks. I'll just starve to death and be done with it.

Hey, how long does it take to starve to death?
Maybe I'll just stash enough food for that long.

Depends, some of us have a little more Tactical Blubber than others. The body has to work through all of that before it starts breaking down muscle and organs.

The Rule of Three gets quoted a lot:
In an extreme circumstance - 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water 3 weeks without food.

or in my teenage daughters case:
3 minutes without texting, 3 hours without internet access, 3 days without a shower and 3 weeks without a trip to the mall.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

I'll just sit tight and wait for the government to save me.
The law? The law is a human institution...

If your BOL is so far away that you can't haul enough food for the trip in your BOB, then I think you need to come up with another plan.

I'm not saying its a horrible idea, I just think that proper planning would avoid ever needing a hidden cache. And if you did need that cache, there is too much of a chance that you'd never find it, couldn't get to it, or it would be damaged/stolen somehow. Better to have a plan that doesn't rely on that, IMO.
