Best round for .270
#1
I have Winchester 70/.270 3-9 Weaver from1975. It was second hand from 1965.
It is a wonderful rifle and one of the best I have ever had.
I did some reloading years back and did get 100gr up to
3300fps - If I am remembering correctly. I want to get back to shooting it but I can't find any of my notes.

What your favorite 270 round ?
Maybe I'll lucky and find some sales at York Gun Show
this week end.

What is your intended purpose? Shooting deer or making bullets go through the same hole on paper?

For hunting I've always liked Winchester Silvertips, I think the .270 comes in a 130 grain.

back when i reloaded for people. i used 130 gr. for just about every thing. if they were going out west i loaded some 150 for the longer range.

I doubt it matters much in .270. Just about any bullet should be highly, highly effective.

My two hunting rifles are Rem 700/ 3006 generally will
shoot 150gr. The other Win 70/ 270 and 130gr seem to be
all around caliber.
Years ago I reloaded and the 270 was the favorite.
I lost or can't find my notes but 90, 100, 115, 130gr.
I do remember one up to 3300fps.
Anyway, was at the York Gun Show today and picked up
3 boxes of Rem 270/130gr bronze point.
I had a few of these at the range last week and they grouped
nicely. $26.00 and box at the show.
On line I got some PPU's 130gr. ( forget the price but cheep )
Ok for sighting-in --- getting on paper, but the best group
I could get was about 4 inches.

FPS isn't all that important. If you miss at 3300fps you might as well miss at 1500 fps or 4000 fps, it doesn't make a difference.
A bullet that will penetrate and expand properly at 2500 fps is more effective than a bullet that exits with little or no expansion or misses the mark at any speed.
I have to agree that a 130 grain bullet seems to be an all around favorite for the .270. It works well in my son's .270 Win. and a friends .270 Weatherby Magnum. No need to be concerned with velocity or rifling twist, it's just a good middle of the road bullet. Your rifle might like a different weight for absolute precision but it should do very well with 130 as a good utility round for target plinking and hunting.
My friend with the Mag. loads his down to typical .270 Win velocity, he bought the rifle because the price was right and it looked good enough to get his attention, not because he wanted magnum performance.
There are three types of people in the world:
Those who make things happen,
Those who watch things happen,
And those who wonder what happened.
