Bill Cosby: We Should All Be More Like Muslims

Monday, June 10, 2013

Bill must have missed all the killing and what not.
Check it out:

I’m a Christian. But Muslims are misunderstood. Intentionally misunderstood. We should all be more like them. They make sense, especially with their children. There is no other group like the Black Muslims, who put so much effort into teaching children the right things, they don’t smoke, they don’t drink or overindulge in alcohol, they protect their women, they command respect. And what do these other people do?

They complain about them, they criticize them. We’d be a better world if we emulated them. We don’t have to become black Muslims, but we can embrace the things that work.

We need people, not just in the church but in the community, who are not afraid to speak up because they want to hear a child’s laughter — not a child’s blood-curdling scream because a bullet hit them. We want them playing outside.

Wow. I often like what Cosby has to say, but this is just ridiculous. I know lots of white people who train their kids right and don't drink and don't smoke and they protect their women. Last I checked, you didn't have to be a black Muslim to do that. (And why the emphasis on "black" anyway? Do you have to be black to be Muslim????)

They abuse their "women" and children more than any other religion that I know of. I think its the thing to do if your black, at least it seemed that way when I was in construction. I dont know.Shrug

Mr. Cosby disappoints me.

Now I shall prepare to get flamed.

What on earth does a religion or religious affiliation have to do with how we behave. If anything we can point to millions of examples of bad behavior executed in the name of Islam and Christianity. Why is he focusing on a few good things, that perhaps a small segment of a certain population exhibits.

Although I think his intent is good, his statement is complete stupidity.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if you read the whole article it sounds to me like he's talking to the black community as a whole, using black muslims as an example of how a black family should be, not so much the religious part, but the respect, lack of drugs and alcohol, smoking, that no longer exists in the inner city.

He's talking about the hypocrisy in the black community when he says:

Quote:Now, if a white person does it, sells drugs to black people, then we’re up in arms, then we’re marching, but when a black person sells another black person crack cocaine, heroin or something that will give us addiction and cause us to not want to support our children and even give our children the same disease, nothing is said, nothing is done. But it has got to be hammered over and over.

Quote:There were abolitionist whites who did more than a whole lot of black people, abolitionist Asians, abolitionists of every color, some Jews, some Catholics, Irish, everybody joining in. They knew that racism and slavery is wrong — but they also knew that apathy is not good.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks to me like he's wagging his finger at black folks. If you actually read the article maybe you'll see it too.

Cosby specified "black" Muslims, probably to make the distinction between them and Arab Muslims; the two groups are as disparate as Catholics and Mormons. While it's true that many black people convert in prison (with the same frequency that other become born-again Christians), most convert for the same reason anyone else converts to another religion: it speaks to them. The reason Islam spreads so fast is that it provides solutions to people who feel they are oppressed, much like early Christianity during the Roman Empire.

I agree with Byker; this was a criticism pointed towards the black community. It wouldn't be his first; he was widely criticized and jeered for comments he made about the failings of the black community. Anyone who raises the ire of Al Sharpton and other black "leaders" is usually telling the truth.

Mr. Cosby is a smart, smart man. Some of you obviously didn't get it.

Bill Cosby thinks young black men and women shouldn't drink, do drugs or steal? What an asshole. How dare he, an often maligned member of the black community tell people how to avoid a few problems in life or dare say that there are other ways of dealing with common problems.

I dont always agree with cosby. However I never disagree with his true underlying sentiment. He'll damn guns but then explain it's really because people use them incorrectly. He's wrong but he's 100% right in the same paragraph.
