BOB Bag Types

Which do you guys(and gals) prefer for a bug out bag?

External frame
Internal frame
MOLLE/ALICE/Tactical
Other?

I'm currently trying to assemble a BOB/72 hour kit and I figured it might be helpful to hear the reasons why you choose one bag style over another.

As I replied to you in PM, and as shown in the BOB thread, I use a large internal frame pack since I primarily use it as a backpacking pack. It's secondary use is as a BOB.

I'd recommend an internal frame if you're going to carry 30+ pounds 10+ miles/day, for multiple days.

For a BOB or less frequent use, I think any of the BOB "type" of bags out there would be fine.

Medium ALICE on a frame here.

They're not just for Bugging Out anymore. I carry workstuff (computer, tools, etc) in one, and another is a dedicated sustenance bag. The workbag is several years old, it's holding up far better than the Targus bag our IT department inflicts on "issues" to to everyone.

Cheap, effective and not a major financial loss if it's destroyed or lost...we have a couple more ready to go.

They also lend themselves well to 550 cord modifications. Running a loop through two of the 1910 hangars makes a nice attachment point of gear that terminates on a 'biner (flashlights, water bottles, etc).

I used to have an entire med alice pack with frame and an H-Strap day pack set up from my CAP days. Sold them at a garage sale years back for $20!! Now I wish I had all that stuff back!

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
