Body Armor Questions? Plates? Shape? Carriers?
#1
With the recent group buy going on the othe sight, I have a few questions I'm hoping some of you can help me with before I make a purchase.

You have an option of formed or flat plates, what are the pros and cons of the two shapes? Is one better than the other? Is one better up front and one better in the back?

Side plates. Are they something that most of you would recommend or not? How uncomfortable are they?

The Carriers they are offering ride rather high. Meant to be a bit more discreet and less obtrusive. Compared to full cumberbun style vest, which do you think would be the better choice?

I know that a vest that actually comes down to your waist, is driven up into your neck when you sit down. So, how do the full "cumberbun" style of carriers work for sitting in.

From what my brother has told me (spent a year in Afghanistan with the 4th ID) the front one is curved and the rear is flat. You can use a flat in the front but the curved is more comfortable.

The shaped plates just provide some more comfort is all. The flat ones will work fine, but they feel a bit bulky on the front, as noted. Side plates aren't a bad idea, and offer some more protection. The question you should ask is whether or not the added weight and bulk is worth it for you.

When choosing a vest or carrier, you really need to ask yourself what the purpose for it is. Are you going to try to be discreet while wearing it, or are you going to be in a situation where it doesn't matter?
