Boehner tax increase sparks conservative backlash

Sen. Jim DeMint, a tea party favorite, ripped House Republican leaders for offering a budget framework that embraced new taxes, saying the GOP plan to raise $800 billion in new revenue would hurt the economy, kill jobs and not reduce the national debt by a penny.

"This isn't rocket science," Mr. DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said. "Everyone knows that when you take money out of the economy, it destroys jobs, and everyone knows that when you give politicians more money, they spend it. This is why Republicans must oppose tax increases and insist on real spending reductions that shrink the size of government and allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money."

Led by House Speaker John A. Boehner, House GOP leaders sent a $2.2 trillion "fiscal cliff" counteroffer to President Obama on Monday that included the $800 billion in tax increases, which would be generated through eliminating loopholes and deductions in the federal tax code.

The broad framework also called for $900 billion in cuts to projected entitlement spending and a lower inflation measure to calculate future Social Security benefits.

True.....but don't let that make you lose sight who is truly leading the pork in butt charge.

They just don't get, however, that they are agreeing their way into irrelevancy.

Charles Krauthammer made a statement in a recent interview that seemed obvious after he said it, but I just hadn't put it all together. This whole fiscal cliff crisis was perpetuated by Obama as a way to fragment the House Republicans. Boehner offered the same amount of increased revenue by eliminating deductions. Obama insisted on tax rate increases because he knew it would fracture the House Republicans. One of his main goals was to neuter the House and mission accomplished.

About 40-45% of the House Republican Caucus is willing to compromise with the Dems in the name of good government. This faction is lead by Boehner. The other 55-60% are real fiscal conservatives who won't compromise on taxes and demand real spending cuts.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Boehner loses his speaker job to a fiscal conservative. Will the House Republicans, under a more conservative speaker, hold the line on the debt ceiling in exchange for real spending cuts, even in the face of MSM Obamaganda and public outrage? (OMG, the USA can't default on it's debt!!)

I'm betting that whether Boehner is speaker or not the Republicans fold again. History is on my side.

If no one is going to steadfastly oppose these bad policies, then there really is no difference between the 2 parties.

Sure, we crowed about voting against BHO, but I think it all would have ended the same way regardless. It was a sham and the election looks more and more like a rig job, just like McCain's candidacy. The same money puts these people in office.

Our government (no, THE government, it's not ours any more) just wants money and control. Republican, Democrat, all the same, just different flavors of control.

The Choomunists have mastered the tactic of "always have a crisis "
And GOP abandons principle and looks at everything Politicall and are too stooped yo figure out they're being played time and time again. Hard to believe they are this dumb. .
If ya stick to principle , the Politics will work themselves out.

Conservatives need to adopt the mindset "The left will not like us, the press will always make us look bad" so that way they can stop trying to look like the good guys, and do their fucking job.

And to be clear, their job is to stop democrats from getting whatever it is they want.
