Quote:PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Two boys, ages 7 and 11, are accused of trying to rob a woman with a loaded gun, police said Sunday.

The boys tried to carjack a 22-year-old woman who was in her family's truck waiting for her parents in a church parking lot, Portland police said in a statement.

Ami Garrett, of southeast Portland, told officers that when the boys approached her, the younger boy told the older boy to "show her your piece."

The woman said that when she refused to give them her vehicle, they demanded cash and her phone. She said that as she drove away, she saw the 11-year-old boy pull a gun from his pocket.

The boys were apprehended in the parking lot by officers responding to reports of children with guns. Police said they recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the older boy's pockets.

Because of their age they were returned to their parents. The police can only refer the case to juvenile court.

IMO, if the police can not hold the children responsible the parents should be locked up.

Now who was the idiot to let their kid grab a .22 and run around town with it I wonder.

Don't be silly. Parents shouldn't serve their children's punishment. These kids can end up in jail just fine on their own.

Update:

Quote:Portland father accused of leaving gun where 11-year-old armed robbery suspect could get it

Portland police have taken a Southeast Portland man into custody under a new city ordinance prohibiting adults from leaving unsecured firearms where minors can get them.

The arrest of Joseph Daniel Charlton, 34, stemmed from Saturday's armed robbery attempt that police say was committed by two boys age 11 and 7.

The gun was a .22-caliber Derringer pistol, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

"We're trying to figure out who had possession of the Derringer and how it got in the hands of an 11 year-old boy," Simpson said.

The Police Bureau's Gun Task Force served a search warrant at 16111 S.E. Alder St. in connection with the case. The state Department of Human Services took a 4-year-old girl into protective custody at the home and expect to take two boys -- the 11-year-old accused in the gun case and a 9-year-old -- into protective custody as well.

"The overall conditions in home, circumstances, are not healthy for kids," Simpson said of the decision to take the children into protective custody.

Police were also seeking search warrants for two trucks belonging to the family.

That's awfully young to be so horrible. They must have lived a sad life so far.

But yes, they should be locked up for that, in juvenile.

You folks forgetting the trayvon martin fiasco? If you had attacked these kids you would have NBC smearing you with doctored "evidence" while showing pictures of these kids... from their sonograms.

Treyvon Martin is dead. George Zimmerman is not.
