Texas Gov. Rick Perry ® and freshman state Rep. Giovanni Capriglione have a plan to create a “Fort Knox of Texas” so that the state can start hoarding gold.

Giovanni has filed a bill to establish a Texas Bullion Depository to store the $1 billion worth of gold bars that are owned by University of Texas Investment Management Co. (UTIMCO), which are currently being housed by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Speaking to conservative radio host Glenn Beck on Tuesday, Perry said that lawmakers were in the process of “bringing gold that belongs to the state of Texas back into the state.” Beck has been a longtime paid spokesperson for the precious metal seller Goldline, which agreed to refund up to $4.5 million to former customers last year after being sued for marking up gold more than 50 percent.

“If we own it, I will suggest to you that that’s not someone else’s determination whether we can take possession of it back or not,” Perry told Beck.

Former Rep. Ron Paul on Thursday explained to The Texas Tribune that the gold would be safer in the hands of Texans.

“If you think gold is a hedge, or a protection, you always want it as close to the individual and the entity as possible,” Paul said. “Texas is better served if it knows exactly where the gold is rather than depending on the security of the Federal Reserve.”

Perry came off as a lightweight on the national stage, but I'm impressed with what he is doing in Texas. Lots of good things happening down there.

For anyone who might be interested the financial manager who advised UT to invest in physical gold was Kyle Bass. If you want to listen to a really smart guy talk about global financial issues youtube search him. He made his fortune by predicting the sub-prime mortage meltdown and started a hedge fund that caters to people with over 1 million to invest.

Interesting side note about Mr Bass. He provided the financing to get the late Chris Kyle's training and security business off the ground and is mentioned in Kyle's book American Sniper.

Maybe not a great campaigner but an excellent doer.
Which do we want? A good bullshitter or a doer.
We would have been one hell of a lot better off with Perry or any GOP person than the absolute traitorous POS we have

They have to win elections at the national level, otherwise doesn't matter how good they are or aren't.

No I think it's better at this point that we have more people like this at a state level. When this powder keg that the Feds are lighting finally blows(as in Greece 2.0), the state level government (I think) will be our only hope at maintaining "normal life" as Federal level disintegrates to what it should have been since 1776(ok I doubt it will go that far.....unless of course all the flocks wake up)

probably true.

not that I care or anything, but if I had to pick 1, I'd pick Gary Johnson as the 'doer' from the states.

That was kind of my point...if they are not good at winning national elections, they need to be awesome where they are. For the reasons you expanded on. You are right, we need good local level politicians and they are more important than the national.
