Bucks Lawmaker Wants to Close Loophole
#1
Quote:A Bucks County lawmaker is calling for the public’s support of proposed gun-safety legislation to close a loophole that allows private purchases of long guns such as rifles, assault rifles and shotguns without a background check.
The proposed legislation would extend background checks already in place for handguns to those purchasing long guns through private sales, such as purchases at a gun show.
The proposed “common sense” legislation will help enforce existing laws, “not create a whole new system of unreasonable regulations,” said Democratic state Rep. Steve Santarsiero.
Currently, he said, people who are the subject of protection-from-abuse orders, convicted felons and those who have mental-health issues are barred from purchasing guns. Background checks show whether a person is a convicted felon or has been involuntarily committed to a mental-health facility, according to Santarsiero.
“We are here today not to trample on anyone’s Second Amendment rights,” Santarsiero emphasized during a rally Thursday at the Montgomery County Courthouse. “We are here today to strike a reasonable balance between those rights and law enforcement’s need to protect the citizens of Pennsylvania.”

"Common Sense" gun laws = liberal Democrat logic for "We're going to continue to nibble around the legal edges until your guns are GONE!"

Easier way to counteract that is to routinely keep pointing out how gun-control groups purposely ignore how existing repeat gun offenders get slaps on the wrists and DA's continue to nolle-prosse their charges.

This lax approach to sentencing for gun crimes is literally killing people. Ergo, gun control groups are supporting murderers.

To drive the point home, start collecting mugshots of every killer that has been repeatedly charged with gun crimes, gotten probation then runs out and kills.

Here's one simple example... Officer Robert Moses was killed by a repeat VUFA offender:

Only after he killed a cop did the sentencing get tough... he got life. But Rafael Jones got slaps on the wrist all the way leading up to this.

And it's now being shared on its own; hopefully it spreads virally in the neighborhoods I won't need to blow $300 to put it on blast.

It's a correct message. CeaseFirePA complains about this all the time, which is why they launched CourtWatch. But you'll never see the Bloomberg-funded groups ever talk about sentencing because they don't want the prison-overcrowding critics screaming at them.

But really... most of the violent gun crime is being committed by people LEOs already know and have already been through the system, and we never address it which is why more people die, including cops.

If you're really concerned about gun violence, then shouldn't addressing THIS be more important to you than squabbling over whether a magazine ban should be set at 7 rounds or 10?

Believe me, it really sucks to have to use P/O Walker as an example and I don't really enjoy appealing to emotion like gun control folks do, but all the PR I've seen from the 2A advocate side is 99% amateur-hour. You have to be more simple and dramatic than that, which is what gun control advocates like Everytown and Moms Demand do.

Previously residing in MD, I understand all too well. You hit the proverbial nail on the head.
