Build your own generator
#1
This Tip of the Week outlines the construction of a generator from a lawnmower engine.
Many of our visitors and customers have read our Tip O’Da Week episodes discussing the homemade generator made from a horizontal shaft engine and a car alternator. Now build a generator with a lawn mower engine! http://theepicenter.com/tow082099.html

That's basically the same idea that was done on The Colony on Discovery Channel a couple years ago. They used a pressure washer instead, and ended up putting two alternators on it to get more current for their very large battery array.

It's not a bad idea, and it would work, if you have extra car batteries just laying around. Wink

Good thing to know for those unexpected times.

I have a couple small engines in the garage, and I thought about building one of these after watching that episode of The Colony. They had theirs running on Wood Gas when they ran out of gasoline. Too bad the pick your own part junkyard that was right outside of Lancaster is now gone, otherwise I'd run out and grab a couple of alternators.

If you're thinking of a GM SI series, check the internet.

Plus, they're a breeze to rebuild & upgrade.

This could be beneficial for those without a generator, in a pinch.

With the proper tools and gear, in the event of an emergency it would be better than nothing.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin
