Burning up some Universal Clays
#1
This stuff has been taking up room in my powder safe for years and it's time to burn it up. Loading it for my 38 SP @ 4.7 gr under 158 LRN. Any other recipes that you folks are happy with? Doesn't matter the caliber.

Sorry, I can't help out with any 38 Spec. recipes for Clays, but since you brought it up may be someone can explain something to me.

Why is this powder so popular?

I've used it once for 12 gauge target loads and it performed well, but no better or worse than other powders I've used. There are lots of fast burn, double-base, flake powders (Red Dot, Bullseye, IMR 700X, Titewad) that cost a lot less and have plenty of reloading data available from numerous sources. Heck the one lbs. bottles are only 14 oz and it's still is more expensive than an actual pound of Titegroup. (ok, that's a ball powder, but it has similar applications) Why pay more to get less?
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

It's not popular in my house. Somehow wound up with it. But I have heard people compare it to Unique. I stopped using Unique too. Your guess is as good as mine. Shrug
