Wonder if they have a video on this:

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/public-school-l...d=11462095

"The most expensive public high school in the nation's history will open its doors to students next month (2010) in Los Angeles, but critics say the $578 million school is already teaching a lesson on wasteful spending."

I watched the whole video. There are a few nuggets of truth in the propoganda piece. Our country did change from a manufacturing driven economy to one that is powered by the financial industry. The wealthy were bailed out and, unless you work in the auto industry, the middle class was not. Although, the people in the middle class who have 401k or other stock market investments have benefited from the bailout of the wealthy.

The problem is that none of this supports the teachers union position that public servants should be compensated above market value.

Yeah, don't believe that one. My 401k is still below the level it was eight years ago, the bailout helped, a little, but it sure as hell didn't bring me back to where I was.

what do you mean we weren't bailed out? didn't you guys get your $300 check?

the bailout exacerbated the problem. it was a bandaid fix to a problem that could only be fixed by a major crash. unfortunately, instead of amputating the leg, we're treating the disease we've let spread to the rest of our body.

Where would it be if the banks weren't bailed out and they all failed?

Edit to add: Where would it be if the markets weren't being propped up by printed money. This is a better question than the first one.

It would be somewhat worse off but I am a very conservative investor. Smile If they all failed you and I wouldn't be exchanging messages on this board we'd be out attempting to find food. Wink

I'm with you on that. I was just supporting my point that those invested in the stock market have benefited (not been made whole) from the bailout of the rich.
