California Cities Ban Smoking — at Home

In what may be taking the “nanny state” to the extreme, 18 cities and counties in California have banned residents from smoking — in their own apartments and condominiums.

The communities have banned smoking in all existing and new multi-unit housing, according to the American Lung Association’s Center for Tobacco Policy and Organizing, which calls the effort “the next frontier in California’s ongoing efforts to protect its citizens from secondhand smoke.”

OK... Not to stick up for Cali at all but,

Its not their home at all. Its someone elses property they are renting. If this was their OWN property, then that dont fly. But its not.

If you get a hotel, you are asked smoking or non. If there are no, smoking permitted rooms, dont smoke in a non room, you might pay an extra fee. To add, I wouldnt be surprised if thats a thing of the past before too long. You wont even have the option soon is what I mean.

If you ask to borrow my car and I tell you not to smoke, would yo have a problem with it? Yeah, well go borrow someone elses car then.

When you rent a property, you pay a security deposit. Put holes in the wall, you pay, stain the carpet, you pay, etc. It comes down to dont trash my shit. Smoking is a dirty, smelly habbit and some of the after effects can be very hard to get rid of.

The problem I have with it is, its "The Man" doing it and sticking theyre noses in as usual, not the appt. complexes or whatever. Well, I'm sure the appt. people are for it too since nobody wants their property destroyed and theyre probably in on it together.

If this was in someones own home and property, I'd be livid. Its not though and I dont have a huge problem helping property owners.

Not much different than retailers that dont allow firearms, dont like it, shop somewhere else. We dont like it, but we respect property owners rights and shop elsewhere (for the most partWink).

Dont like it, rent another property, pretty simple.

Like I said though, my gripe is the Govt' sticking their nose in too.

OK, out for a cigaretteWink

ETA- link broken, looking at it a little better though, they say appt. and condos. In the bigger cities, a lot of time people do own these. You say appt, I think rent from a complex or landlord. Little bit different.
and to the dust you shall return

It's not the government's property either. If the owners of the apartment complex decide to set this policy, fine; it's their property. But the government? I have no time for this nanny crap.

Another pointless law that waste taxpayer dollars and is virtually unenforceable.

How are they going to enforce that law? Send the police to your house everyday to check for signs of smoking?

Hey you don't want me to smoke and I am on your property? Great I wont smoke there. You are the government and want to tell me that I can not smoke on someone else's private property? Go fuck yourself, you are the government and do not get to make that decision.

Oh this country...what has it become?

the people moving out certainly doesn't offset the amount moving in.

sad that California is such a nanny state as I have heard from friends who have visited Cali and friends who currently reside there of the many things nature has to offer within the state borders.

I was planning on going to San Diego for a week in early 2013 but some house renovations axed that.

Goes to prove Calif is still the land of the "Fruits & Nuts"; and they are still ripening under the sun.

People don't have to move away for the California influence to spread like wildfire, think car emission tests, and most other "eco" friendly crap.

Honda motorcycles used to make two versions of their bikes, one for California, which had stricter emission standards, and one for the other 49 states. Now all Honda bikes are California friendly.

There are a lot of products out there that are made California friendly and they say so right on the label.

Hell California tried to ban gas powered lawn mowers.

California passes all these flaky laws and the rest of the country watches to see how it works out then adapts them too.
