California Legislature Moves Seven Gun Bills Forward
#1
Quote:A package of seven bills to tighten gun regulations, including one to require registration for the purchase of ammunition, was approved by the state Senate on Wednesday after emotional debate about the limits of the Second Amendment’s guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms.

Here are the bill texts:

SB396 Would remove the grandafther clause for any magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, requiring owners to ship them out of state or dispose of them by January 1, 2014

AB180 Gives the city of Oakland special permission to write it's own more restrictive gun laws

AB231 Would create the offense 'criminal storage of a firearm in the 3rd degree' when a person leaves a firearm in a location where the person knows, or reasonably knows a child is likely to gain access to it

SB47 Prohibits so-called bullet buttons and other devices that gun manufacturers use to circumvent the state's assault weapons ban and allow swift reloading. A similar bill, AB48, passed in the Assembly and bans conversion kits that allow people to modify their weapons.

SB53 Requires ammunition buyers to get a permit, have a background check and pay a fee.

SB755 Expands the list of those prohibited from owning weapons to include people convicted of additional drug and alcohol offenses.

SB683 Expands the requirement for a firearms safety certificate from handguns to rifle purchases.

SB374 Prohibits the sale, purchase, manufacture, importation or transfer of semi-automatic rifles that can accept detachable magazines.

SB293, which requires that guns sold in the state be equipped with technology, such as biometric readers, that would prevent anyone but the registered owner from firing them.

They're either elitists with private security, or they're scumbags who don't pay attention to the laws anyway.

Many times, those two groups are one in the same.

The environment out there is very similar to what I see in people from NJ out this way. There is some sense of deep running pride that keeps people from leaving. Others are just stuck there, so deep in mortgage or high rent payments that they think moving will break the bank. I have a friend who is a police officer, we converse all the time about gun laws here and there. He made a comment once about how lucky I was in PA and how he wished he lived somewhere with similar laws, I told him "just pack up and move." His response, "yeah right."

As for CA gun owners, they have "compromised" and fallen for the "common sense" crap and look where it has gotten them. My Dad is freaking out over SB374 and what it will mean for his BAR. I remember hearing him say "who needs one of those anyway?" years ago when the AWB passed. My how the tables have turned.

For the record I'm pushing hard for him to box that BAR up and mail it to me should 374 pass Big Grin
The law? The law is a human institution...

we're doing this wrong. we should support these laws provided they remove the LEO and private security exemption. then these guys can reap what they sow. until those that are anti gun are oppressed under the same laws they support, we can never expect them to change their tune.

Having lived in CA for 19 years, all I can say is the state is going to hell in a hand basket fast. I honestly believe it should be the greatest state in the union. There is tons of wealth, it produces enough agriculture, goods and services to literally be self sustaining as its own country, and it really truly is incredibly beautiful (well a great part of it is at least), with a variety of different terrain and environments (mountains, ocean, beaches, desert, forests, etc...).

Unfortunately, its flooded with illegal immigrants (whom I don't blame for crossing the border, we freely allow it, and if you saw the conditions they live in south of the border, if I was them I'd run to CA, AZ, NM, TX too), the school system is horrible (even if you live in an affluent area, the public schools are sub-par, to what we would consider a mediocre district here), real estate is a joke (too expensive unless you're incredibly wealthy, most middle class families are house poor), gun laws are already ridiculous (I'm a giddy kid in a candy store living in PA now!), and even though they do issue CCW's you pretty much have to be part of the elite to get approved for one, and taxes both income and property are through the roof!

There's a reason I left. I voted with my feet. My employer gave me the opportunity to move to NJ for work. I said, HELL NO! Why would I do that? It's CA with cold weather? I'll move to PA though!

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.
