I read before where they already let 25% of the force go a year or two ago and as a result crime spiked. I think if they actually go through with this it could set a very dangerous precedent. If a decent sized city like Camden overnight decided to disband it's police force overnight the city would probably turn into LA 1992, so the government would respond by having to bring the national guard in where it would be trapped because even if you brought the city under control again there's nobody else to hand authority off to. The how many other defunct cities might try this to make up for their budget shortfalls?

It's not like there isn't going to be cops in Camden, they are forming a county police force, fact is there may be more cops in Camden as a result. You live in Delaware, New Castle County has a police force similar to what Camden County is forming, can't go a mile in New Castle County without seeing a cop car, at least in my travels through the area. My job takes me into Camden from time to time, this plan can't be any worse than what's going on there now.

If you live in the jungle, you deal with the animals.
I don't live there, so let them kill each other.
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to.

I didn't know Camden had a police force. Last time I was there I sure as hell didn't see any.

Camden has the most corrupt police force that I have EVER seen!
I saw it at work, first hand... ![]() If they get rid of the police, they will be getting rid of half of the crime.
My guidance counselor said I wouldn't amount to anything... Lucky guess!

Sober is right, they arent just walking away, they are forming a COUNTY WIDE Police Dept, with Camden as a Metro Division.
I live less then 20 minutes from the East Coast version of Beirut. At least for now. The FACT is, if people REALLY want lower property taxes in the most expensive State in the Country to live in, then the way to get there is to go with COUNTY WIDE services. And this is the first step. I lived in Florida for three years , from 2003 to 2006, smack dab between Orlando and Daytona Beach, in a HUGE house with an inground pool and the property taxes were 1200 a YEAR ! Know why ? Cause with the sole exceptions of major Cities like Orlando and Daytona and others , everything is done at the County level in Florida. County School Board, County Public Works, County Fire Dept, County Sheriff's Office, County Trash Pick Up, County School Buses, everything ! Florida has three times the number of Counties and easily twice the population of NJ, yet its significantly cheaper to live there. NJ has IIRC something like 13 Counties, 566 Municipalities, EACH with its own school board , fire dept, public works dept, police dept, school superintendent, etc, etc. There are examples all over NJ of little 1 sq mile towns that have their own police, fire, etc . One of them is less then 15 minutes from Camden and has at least 5 full time cops on the road, plus supervisors, plus a chief, and all the costs that go with that, and thats just ONE public dept in that town.
