Can the march towards socialism/marxism be stopped?

This is something I noticed in Philadelphia also. There are a few Obamites at work who make no secret of wanting socialism/marxism in the US, and Obama is clearly their go to guy.

These are just a few recent posts which unfortunately paint a very realistic scary picture for the future.

At this point, given the disparity in population between urban and rural areas is their any way to stop them via the electoral process?

I get the feeling we are doomed.

IMO, no, there is no way by sticking with the existing system. Like you said, its what people want. History will always repeat.

51% of this country slit its own throats on 11/6/12..., and they're taking the rest of us down with them.

I know we say that (I've been guilty of that), but it's really only 51% of the people who actually showed up to vote. It's been said that the turnout of GOP voters was lower this election cycle.

How many in this country actually truly support this stuff? Is there any way to gauge it accurately? We know gun sales have gone nuts lately, and I can almost guarantee it ain't the socialists buying guns . . .

I think a decent portion of the 51% had no idea what they were voting for, and will eventually become uncomfortable with the direction of the country. Socialism isn't natural for the middle and upper economic classes (who typically worked through a lot of adversity to achieve their status) and eventually many will realize they are getting screwed.

It may not happen while Obama is in office, but I would guess sometime in the next 10 years there will be an awakening and flight to democracy. When it happens I imagine the 51% will become the 47% and we'll begin a new cycle back toward America.

We're not a democracy. At least we're not meant to be. This country was founded as a republic.

We also have to give credence to the simple fact that a lot of our countrymen just aren't that bright and they can't conceptualize any of this.

They aren't necessarily the majority, but too many are truly sheep, ripe for the slaughter . . . this collapse may be necessary to cull the herd.

You are correct, I should not have used democracy in my post. I should have said republic. (BTW, it certainly feels like a democracy today)

When 51% of the population who bothered to vote can determine our fate, leaving us with little recourse, I'm not sure what I'd call it. A number of epithets come to mind, but that's about it.

51% didn't decide our fate. The president doesn't make the laws. Congress does. I don't know how to calculate the number of people to blame but whatever percentage voted for the incumbent in most cases are to blame. Obama didn't pass the NDAA or Obamacare. Congress did. All he did was give it a final ok. If you want to place the blame anywhere, politically, place it square on Congress. Obama can't do anything until Congress puts it on his desk. It doesn't matter who is in the White House really. If Congress didn't pass bullshit laws for Obama to sign, he couldn't do much of anything. If they pass something worthwhile (try not to laugh this is hypothetical) and he vetoes it, they can override him. As we are a republic, you have to pick your representatives well. They are the ones that can screw you far more than the president can.
