Holidaymakers have been forced to sleep outside as there is no air conditioning in their sweltering cabins.
Some passengers have no options other than bags or buckets for toilets with reports of 'raw sewage running down the walls'.
The news came amid claims that those on the ship have turned into 'savages' and are fighting over food, relatives said.
Passengers are reportedly queuing up to four hours to get a hamburger.

Well, if there is one thing Sandy and this cruise line is doing, is getting people used to what America will be like after Obama is done with it.

that was almost my first thought. this is what the future will look like when our government mandates equality and dependence on the state due to policies that result in scarcity of any resources.

And my wife laughed at me when I told her that a cruise is just one disaster away from being a prison..or a death trap!!

Now they all know how all those people serving them on the ship live in the countries they come from.

This doesn't really echo NY post Sandy, it echos anytime you have a large group of people solely dependent upon others to provide for them and then something goes wrong.

And when they are living in a closed ecosystem. I can't think of a worse vacation idea than a cruise but I would not read that much into it. We as a society 'trust' that things work as it should. Hell, every time we go through a green light we trust the .gov and unnamed faces that opposing traffic's light is red.

I agree, I wouldn't take a cruise. Floating germ factories for one, and I don't trust the crew to actually do what they're supposed to in the case the ship actually needs to be abandoned.

In the case of a red light, you have some control over that, I don't enter an intersection without giving a cursory look to see if opposing traffic is stopped/stopping. It has saved me several close calls, but I do see people blindly drive through intersections. Saw a Honda Goldwing get creamed one time because they entered to make a left and didn't realize a truck wasn't stopping.

No way anybody slows down for every green light but even if one was a total freak who did we all do things in life where we simply trust the system. Flying on planes. Driving on bridges. Having surgery. Taking a aspirin.

More than anything this just proves that despite efforts to be prepared, shit happens.

I didn't say I slow down for every green light, but I don't enter them blindly, I pay attention to the other traffic probably more than most other drivers on the road.

I also accept that somethings are beyond my control, but at the same time, I won't intentionally put myself in a situation like the people on that cruise ship.
