CBI Deals With Massive Influx Of Potential Gun Buyers
#1
Quote:DENVER (CBS4) – The day after the shooting in Connecticut a lot of people in Colorado tried to buy a gun.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says it received 4,154 requests for background checks from potential buyers on Saturday. That was so many the CBI couldn’t process them all and the backlog grew to nearly 18 hours. The Unit could only process 3,001 checks on Saturday.

Extra staff was brought in over the weekend and workers are still trying to clear the backlog.

“CBI’s InstaCheck employees are dedicated professionals who take tremendous pride in providing exceptional customer service while balancing the critical public safety role they perform in the background check process,” CBI Director Ronald Sloan said in a statement. “The team routinely works well past operating hours of the unit to reduce numbers in the queue and subsequent wait times. I’m extremely proud of their efforts this weekend, and throughout the year.”

The record for background checks processed in one day is still from Black Friday of this year as 4,028 background checks were processed for firearms purchases.

According to Susan Medina with the CBI, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is experiencing similar volume to CBI’s InstaCheck numbers.

Citizens are asked to remain patient as CBI’s InstaCheck Unit works to process the background checks.

People are seeing the writing on the wall.

I very much dislike O'Reilly, but I watched tonight and he and most of his guests are in favor of AWBs. They mocked those that believe the 2nd is about protecting us from tyranny.

Bill even said "If Obama wants to send troops into your home, the assault weapon isn't going to help you."

You have NRA "Grade A and B" senators coming out in favor of AWBs.

Who is going to oppose this when it comes down in January?

This may be "the sky is falling" talk, but I think we're going to get another AWB, especially when our normal "gun rights" outlets appear to be favoring it.

The antis screaming that there are "too many guns" are directly responsible for putting umpteen thousands MORE guns in people's hands.

Irony.

Indeed, and this video demonstrates that perfectly.

Best line from the video;

"Who buys these weapons?"

"Everybody!!!"

I was shocked to hear the note at the end that the AR is not as powerful as many other firearms on the rack.

That was something I mentioned to my wife earlier when she was "Facebook battling" some antis who were spouting their "highly powerful dangerous killing machine" bullshit.

I'm proud of her for speaking up to these buffoons and correcting them when they spew their nonsense.

This is the typical kind of statement on my neighborhood message board:

Quote:Twenty innocent first grade children were cut down for no reason on Friday by a monster with an assault rifle, it was a rifle he assaulted them with, so yes in my eyes it is an assault rifle. Twenty bludgeoned children who had no chance were wiped out by a weapon that has no place in our society, be it in the city, the suburbs, mountains or farm shows. Just because it is accepted as a way of life outside of big cities does not make it one bit acceptable, there have been many instances of things that were once acceptable in society that we would be horrified to have happen now. Grow up people, its not the 1800s anymore, we don,t need arsenals to defend the homestead, your antiquated beliefs are responsible for innocent people being executed on a daily basis.

This poster just completely ignores all the gun violence around her/him and what it's committed with.

So, my reply:

Quote:As convincing as that sounds, you have mentioned nothing about the 99% of gun violence that occurs on the streets of Philadelphia, Camden, Chicago, Oakland. Most of the killing of children with guns is happening with handguns.

Focusing on scary looking assault rifles barely scratches the surface of gun violence. What's more important--the mass of where most gun violence is, or an assault weapons ban to make you feel better?

FYI--a lot of brown kids are being killed in your name. They're just not in Newtown:

I also had to show to the same group (law enforcement locally reads that board)... that the ranch rifle Mini-14 was legal under the Federal AWB. The Tactical Mini-14 was not legal.

And there's only two differences: pistol grip, and collapsing stock. The cartridge .223, same as the Newtown shooting is exactly the same, the rifles have exactly the same action, they are for all intents and purposes, the same gun.

Just the ranch rifle version with the wood buttstock makes it look less "scary" than the solid black collapsing stock and pistol grip Mini-14. But they're the same fucking gun. And how often are street thugs running around Philly with a Mini-14 robbing stores? Hardly never!

We are pretty much doomed I think...

At work yesterday people were talking about this, and those who are normally neutral on gun rights were outspoken about there needing to be some changes..

Some of these people were folks who had never before shot a gun, and whom I was in the midst of getting to go to a range with me...
